3.21 vs 3.73 Gearing

I'm getting very close to ordering my 2012 Sahara Unlimited and was wondering what people thought of the 3.21 vs 3.73 gearing. I plan on keeping my Jeep essentially stock. I would imagine the 3.73 would be beneficial if I was planning on going to a lift and bigger tires correct? What about towing? Would appreciate some advice and guidance here from everyone!

Thanks, Dave.

Most here would go with 3.73's. They offer more flexibility down the road and a touch more pep.

I'm one of the few that will probably go with 3.21's because where I travel is pretty flat, I'll stay stock, I'll do very light towing, and I'll spend quite a bit of time on the highway and in the burbs....so my particular goal is to maximize higher speed mpg at the expense of flexibility.

I've gone back and forth on which axle to get for months, and even after test driving both back to back, I'm still leaning 3.21's....but would note rule out 3.73's. Take both for a test drive if you can.

If your thinking of any towing or a mild lift do the 3.73s , think the max tow package is 3500 pounds with the 3.73s over 2000 pounds with the 3.21s
This is the worst steak I ever saw, it still has marks where the jockey was hitting it.....

I have a 3.21 JK 2 Door and it works well for me. But if I had the 4 door, I would definitely go for the 3.73. As jimmysmith said, the towing for the 3.21 JKU is limited to 2000lbs. Also, the additional weight of the JKU would make me want the 3.73 for a little more torque off the line. The cons of the 3.73 is a little more engine noise on the highway and possibly less mileage.
