I have owned Jeeps with all the popular gears. 3.73 works very well on road and off. no one can tell me different. I may hear that you may need 5.13 or 4.10 or another ratio. 3.73 is the best for on road and off road.
I get it. Sound is important. Silence is also important. 3.73 is the best gear setup for a jeep. I can out-wheel you or others in 3.73. knowing how to wheel is way more important. I had a 2.5 inline 4 as my first Jeep. I crawled in 4wlo. I also drove in hi. The performance was horrible. The wrangler 98 with the i6 was incredible. The 2007 to 2011 with the 200hp was a dog.
Oh yeah?? Well I can outwheel you and others with 2.21 gears, RWD only, skinny tires aired up to 40 pounds, and balancing a midget on the front bumper looking for rocks.
And I bet my dad can beat the hell out of your dad.
No gear can claim to be the "best" gear. Each setup will do really well in one area while compromising something else. For a guy that keeps 32" wheels and drives flat pavement almost exclusively, 3.73 might work well. I doubt many people with 35's who wheel and live in the mountains would be too thrilled with that setup though.
I think I could have squeezed 3 midgets into the back seat I took out. I took it out 'cause I was worried my 3.73 needed some help. Or for fun, which was it?

Phew, so glad I found this thread. I have been wanting to pull the trigger on swapping my 3.73 for 4.88 and throw a locker in the rear. Thanks to this thread I just saved about $1800...
Get the popcorn (again). If no one can tell you different why did u start this thread? Are we supposed to care seriously? Sounds like someone with nothing to do who just wants to start crap.
No crap and not a lurker. 3.73 really works well. I was just stating the obvious. My thread is real information from a JKU owner who is happy with 3.73 and has "real" world experience with my 3.73. It works very well.
I even think I could put on 37"s with no performance issues.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
