Yeah I don't usually bother putting them back in, if I do they just go in finger tight. I've never had a problem leaving them out for long periods though..

The guys at the local Extreme Shop and the Dealer told me that I only need to put them back in when I'm not taking the tops off any longer. i.e. winter. Admittedly, have less the 1K miles so far, so not a lot of experience to talk from, but I figure they do. (shrug)

The way I look at it, the manufacturer put them there for a reason and it wasn't just to look pretty. In my opinion it doesn't that much time or effort to remove them and like wise to put them back in. So I remove them when taking any part of the top off and they go back in when I'm done.

It's really not that big a deal to me.
