315 Duratracs with Leveling Kit

Facing a real dilemma here.

I'm going to be getting new wheels and tires for my 2014 JKU-Sport coming in soon. (3.73 gears, and anti-spin differential).I am so torn between 33" Duratracs and 315s. I feel like if I go with 33s, I'll be kicking myself later on. I don't want a big lift though. The only offroad this will see is on the beach and some trail use. I will not be driving over boulders or anything, will not be flexing the axles too much.

Here are the options:

"Lift" - TeraFlex 1.5" Performance Leveling Kit OR TeraFlex 2.5" Budget Boost

With the TF performance kit, can you just add some extra lift with pucks or spacers under the new coils you install??

If you run 315s with just the performance kit, I've heard that you will need to trim the fenders and the pinch seam. Add bump stops. Is that really it?

Has anyone done anything like this? Please post some pictures or any advice you may have to share. Thanks

with the leveling kit you're going to be fine, tight... but fine. those 315/75 duratracs actually measure out to about 33.5"... you might need to trim your pinch seam, you'll be a bit close in the rear and the extra space is always a good thing.

now the 2.5" kit.. i wouldn't talk you out of that... you're jeep will ride a little smoother, and if you do get on some bumpy trails, or even at the beach.. you have more "useable" suspension.

You shouldn't have to trim the pinch seam since it's 2014. They started trimming them from the factory sometime in the middle of the 2013 run.

And if I did get the 2.5" BB...that kit is all I need right? I mean, the BB is actually cheaper than the performance leveling kit. (Assuming I stick with stock shocks)

Hi.. According to Q-tec, 315/75/16 measure out to 34.9"...?

yeah.. i know. wait till you see them mounted... my 37" tires are barely 36" no tire is the size they advertise... maybe it is before they're mounted and installed on your rig.

35" DuraTracs will fit under the TF performance leveling kit, but you will definitely have to remove the airdam and trim the pinch seam. I ran that way for a few months until I installed the TF 2.5" lift.

Setup looks awesome, ESP.

hbgirl - with the 35's and 2.5" lift, is it necessary to replace the shocks? I've read conflicting info on this. I know TF sells the kits with and w/o shocks included. If you go with stock, any mods necessary? I'm planning to get a 13 or 14 JKU this fall and will definitely do a wheel/tire/lift mod right away (35's on 17" rims).

One other question - read that the spare tire holder needs to be replaced to handle the heavier wheel/tire combo. Advice?

Hi Jon Snow, I'm not hbgirl but I think I can help answer as I'm currently waiting on my '14 JKUR and have done some lift and tire research and I'm about to purchase my lift very soon.

TF sells a lift that you may be interested in (same one I'm going to buy) that comes with a shock adapter that allows you to use the factory shock.

My plan is to run 35x12.50x17 inch BFG KM2s on factory Moab rims plastidipped black (got the rims and will be painting them tomorrow).

I will also be running 1.5" spidertrax or similar wheel spacers to help correct the offset to be able to run factory rims.

My reasoning for using the TF kit with shock adapters.. I wanted something more than a BB because I will be adding weight in the form of bumpers, tire carrier and winch. I choose the shock adapters because.. well.. My jeep will be brand new, so I might as well use the adapter until new shocks are needed, then swap for longer shocks.


As for a tire carrier for the 35" spare.. I'm flip flopping between the TF hinge or a Body Armor bumper and tire carrier :

35's may fit for highway use but I can get my 33's with the tf performance leveling kit to rub on the rear under high flex

Do you have a 2 or 4 dr? My question is because I am wondering if you actually do a lift are you thinking of exhaust spacers or going for the new ds right away?

Go with the 2.5 and 315's. I went with the tf leveling and 33's and while it is comfortable for dd since I put on a lot of mileage, I do regret not going with the 315's and will likely upgrade down the road.

Thanks for all the great info, FXnut. Since you mentioned that you have a JKUR on order, I'm curious about the ordering process. Easy, hard, can you get a decent deal going that route, how long till delivery? I know -lot's of questions, but if I'm going to drop 35-40K on a new jeep (+ wheels/tires/lift, etc.), I want to do it right the first time.

I think an above poster got confused on the 2.5 kit your talking about. The 2.5 BB kit is a puck kit that will have no where near the ride quality of a coil lift like the 1.5 performance leveling kit. Plus the performance kit will allow better articulation if you decide to disconnect.

I have researched beyond my mental capabilities and decided to go the route you mentioned which is a 1.5 performance leveling kit ( coils ) and if need be a 1 inch spacer front and back for more clearance. what I understand this will have little affect on drivleline and handling issues.

I too am curious as to if anyone has added the spacers to the performance leveling kit as I do rub my fenders in the back when loaded with gear, I wouldn't mind doing the 1" spacer in the rear to get it level or slight take back

I'd do the 2.5, I ran the 315 duratracs for weeks with no lift what do ever on the road but I wouldn't dare take it off-road like that, I have a stubby front bumper and I trimmed the pinch seam. The front wasn't the problem it was the rear that was too close for comfort

So if I went with the 2.5" TF coil lift with shock adapters, could I add after market shocks if I get them later? Just remove the old shocks and adapters and bolt on the new, longer ones?

Here are some pictures of my daughters Jeep and mine. Both have 315/70-17 Duratracs and we both have leveling kits as our lifts.

I measured mine and they come out at a 33.25 rolling diameter, which is what I used on the Pro-Cal to reset the speedometer and it's spot on again.

Forgot to mention that the pinch seam is already trimmed on the 2013, and we removed the air dam on both of them. We both feel they look better without it in place.

315 Duratracs measure out to 34.4@28psi from all the research I've done. One of the members here (Matador) has 315s and I have the 33s. When I parked next to him, there is a clear difference in size. 315s are a good deal larger.

Now, OP, if you are TRULY and DEFINITELY never going to do any serious wheeling, I'd swallow the red pill and go with 33s. The looks of 35s will wear off, and the negatives of 35s will always be there. Your MPG will take a decent hit, 3.73s are not ideal for 35s so you will lug around, etc. I have the opposite problem. I have 33s, but am wheeling much more than I ever thought I would, so on my new rubi with 4.10s, I will be going with 35s. Make a logical decision, not just emotional (looks.)

My Duratracs sit at 33.75" @29 psi.

I had to trim the pinch seam - this was an early 2013 before Jeep did it.

I have aftermarket bumpers, so no idea if they will rub the stock air dam.

Bushwacker flatties, and now I am running 10A springs (leveled it out really nice and gave some height)

Mileage dropped about 1mpg, averaging 16.5 to 17.2 now.

I went with 315's after putting my (then) stock Jeep next to a friend with 285 tires. He was only about a half inch taller in the tire then me. To me, the 33's really look good on the 2 door, but the 4 door looks nicer in 35's.

BINGO! 33's look good on a 2 door, but not proportionate on a 4dr with the longer wheel base IMHO.

Also, I really don't think there will be much of a loss of mpg on a 4.10 equipped Rubicon over stock size tires..

Do you have a picture of the front of your Jeep(s) with the air dam removed?

Tires will measure out differently due to a few variables. Wheel width makes a diference. 17x9, 17x8.5, 17x8, and this ain't even to mentioning the 15 and 16 wheel sizes. Do you really think the same tire will measure out the same in height and width...nope. Just something to keep in mind.

She has 1.5 inch spacers so they have plenty of clearance.

Sorry, no pictures yet with the air dam gone. Maybe this weekend if I get the time and no one posts pictures first.

I'm in Canada and am a member of APA (Automobile Protection Agency) which I think gets discounts like Tread Lightly or employee discounts.

I paid invoice + $225 I believe however I ordered on the last day the $3250 Jeep incentives were offered on the '2013's, and the salesman said if he couldn't find what I wanted, he would honor the discount on a '14. Sure enough, we had to order a new '14 JKUR and I had the dealer roll the discount into the price.

I ended up with '14 JKUR Billet 6spd, heated seats, Nav 430, hardtop only (buying a Trektop NX and soft doors over the winter) and connectivity package and I got it for $35, 373.00 before tax. (40,022.01 taxes included and out the door!). I'm very pleased with the deal I received, and for me using the APA it was very painless. The only sticky point was when I was at the dealer and they tried to renege on writing the $3250 off the price. They came in with $1500, I refused, then $2K and I was about to leave, then they came back with "OK, I guess we will since we told you we would", and they wrote in the full $3250 discount.

Good luck in your search for a new Jeep..

Ive got a 2 door so 285/75/17 ( 33.9 )max size im going. I only have 3.73 s and dont want to run into axle issues trying to turn a 35. I think the 2.5 TF coil would put me to tall for that tire combo. It cant hurt to ask does anyone have a pic with this setup on a performance leveling kit??
