33x12.5 x 17 on 17 x 8 rims

I have 17 x 8 rims with 0 offset.

I plan on going to 285/70 17 that should be ok?

can 33 x 12.5 17 fit?

I've never had the best grasp of how to apply offset and try and figure out the BS from it. So with that said.. What is the back spacing of the rims your looking at? In order to run that wide of a tire you need at least 4.5 bs.. And for a 12.5in wide tire if your gonna offroad your jeep with a 17in rim.. The 17x8 and 17x9 is what is recomended

8" wheel with 0 offset means it has 4" bs. Offset is how much from the center of the wheel the mounting surface is " offset"...

Just for the record 285/70 17 are 11.5" wide. So even more room.

Thanks all. The web site said 0 off set, 4.5 back space?

So 33 12.5 17 will fit. Will they look ballooned? Rounded not flat on the tread

Yes, they would be 4.5", not 4". When calculating backspace from offset, you have to add 1" to the rim width. This is considered the overall rim width. So 8+1=9/2=4.5".

The 12.5 will fit just fine on the 8" wheel. It will have a bit of a bulge, but that always looks good on a Jeep unless it is severe. But, like another poster said, the tires you are looking at are not 12.5" wide but are only around 11" wide. So you will definitely be fine.

Just be prepared for the possibility of trimming your air dam, adding washers to your steering stops, or wheel spacers. With the stock backspacing of 6.25", you "may" run into some rubbing.

Welcome to the forum!!

It's the 19th, right? Wish it was the weekend before. I will be at Tybee Island in Georgia on the 19th for my wife and I's 15th anniversary.

But I am strongly thinking about heading to URE for the Jamboree at the end of this month. Not to do any trail riding, but just to hang out at the swap meet and meet and great. I believe Unlimited.Kev is going as well and OH9JK has mentioned it too. You and Mike should come out to that.

No rubbing what so ever. I actually cut my pinch seam just in case but really don't think I needed to.

I have the same size rim 17x8 with 4.5" BS. I'm ordering KM2's and trying to decide between the 285/70 17's and the 305/65 17's. I'm leaning towards the 285's for a little extra clearance. Of course mine is a TJ, but just saying either tire size should be fine on the rim size. I need to decide today as there is a 3 week backlog on these tires.
