4:10 question

A dealer located a JKU rubicon with a max tow package and 4:10 rear end. I don't really plan on towing with the vehicle, and wanted to know how the 4:10 would impact my daily driving? I understand that it may be good if I end up upgrading to a larger wheel/tire package. Difference in mileage? Ride?

Just a newbie trying to get smart on this stuff.

rubi's come with 4.10 front AND back. Or 3.73 if optioned.

Sport/Sahara 3.21/3.73

If you don't ever plan on bigger tires 3.21 will work for you.

Why Rubicon?

Go with the 4:10 gears, you don't buy a jeep for good gas mileage. When you start the Mods ( And you will ) you will be happy ya did.

4.10 work great with 35's...3.73's work ok.

If no plans to put bigger tires on then go with 3.73's. You'll save about 1-2 mpg.

Trust me I've owned both in the past 6 mos. A 2012 Sahara 2 door w/3.73's and 35's and currently a 2012 JKU Rubicon w/4.10's. No 35's yet but they're going on soon.

I am averaging 16 to 18 mpg with the 4.10. Waiting on the 35" when these wear out. I would go with the 4.10.

weren't they standard with 3.73, and $50 option for 4.10? Pretty sure they were when they first came out, wasn't sure if they changed it because of all the problems with people wanting 4.10 and getting 3.73.

If your getting the Rubicon then you should go for the 4.10. it will give you room to grow in the event that you ever decide to upgrade the tires and even if you never decide to do anything it will still help the resale since the majority of the people looking for Rubicons will be looking for 4.10.

A Rubicon is a nice package with the 4.10's if you are getting the Rubicon. If I had decided on a Sport or Sahara I would have opted for the 3.73's. If I was looking for a DD but wanted an extremely capable 4X4 with great road manners and didn't plan on changing the rubber I would have gone for a loaded auto Sahara Unlimited with 3.73's.

I didnt see the OP mention what year JK he was looking at.. Are we sure he's talking about a 2012?


Either way.. OP go with the 4.10's if it's a 2012 JK Rubicon.. You won't regret it. If it's a 07-11 JKR/JKUR there is no option.. there all come with with 4.10's
