Actually if you get the MyGig Lockpick, the 730N becomes pretty useful. Complete iphone integration. I can stream Netflix movies to my nav display. I can watch DVD's (in motion if I wanted). I can show I've hooked up to cameras to mine. One for backup and one for the front bumper. I'm going to hook one up to the underside this weekend. I think all will be helpful when wheeling.

Your welcome, I don't think the 2012 manual is avail online yet, but it should be soon, you'll find it here: My Jeep: Jeep Owners Service Manuals - 4x4 SUVs, Sports Utility Vehicles, Off Road

I'm sure the vast majority is the same as the 2011 though, except anything to do with the engine/service stuff..

Question to the 730N owners, is the 730N equiped with Garmin technology?

reading this years brochure and it says on page 10. "It's an easy upgrade to a Uconnect Medai Centre 730N radio with 6.5 inch touch screen and enhanced Garmin(C) GPS navigation"

Other spots mention 430N and Garmin then say the 730N is all that and enhanced Nav.(which would be the voice control and dead recon.)

I orded the 730, I have an issue with buying the best, but I somehow talked myself out of the Rubi and got a Sahara.

So my question is to the 730N owners, is the 730N equiped with Garmin technology?

has anyone tried the lock pick for the 430rhb radio and does anyone know if additional monitors can be installed in the back for the passengers.

I have a suction cup Garmin (was at the time) big screen GPS I paid $700 for six years ago.

I still use it for rent cars. It is a great unit.

When my wife ask me why I changed to a man's voice for instructions I told her I already had enough women in my life telling me were to go.

Getting the 730N in my 2012 JKUS.

Sorry, it's Navtec.

I gave up the Garmin technology to get the other features.

My in dash JVC unit with Navtec in my current ride is dumber than a box of rocks but will get you there if you pay attention.

Some thoughts here. I have had 5 mygigs in various Chrysler products and I despise the Harmon Kardon nav system on the 730. First off, the Lockpicks suck. They cause volume to drop off at certain speeds. Very annoying. I have a Lockpick in my Challenger and a Navtv system in my Ram3500 and no problems in the truck.

Second, I specifically sought out a Wrangler with the 430 Garmin based system. The detail is much better on the Garmin unit. The ability to adjust the scale in much finer increments. On the 430 your still get the EVIC prompts and all the features of the 730 except the Sirius traffic where they display the conditions on the map. My hatred of the 730 was so great that I was willing to forgo that feature and I live in a city center. I will soon replace the 730 with Alpine head units.

The 430 has all the same features that I can see including music storage, ipod integration. In fact, I think the voice dialing is better. I have never used voice dialing on the other two and my phone was buried in my bag so I hit the button said a name and it got it right.

Honestly, you should preview both systems but if you are looking for a better Nav interface, then the 430 is the better unit. If Sirius Traffic is a must then you are limited to the 730 in which case I recommend and aftermarket double din unit. My two cents.

I have the sirius in my 2012. it has extra gadgets as mentioned like gas pricing and weather (through sirius) but i really like the reroute due to traffic contitions that it uses. i drive the washington area beltway and a single fender bender can turn a 60 minute commute into additional hours (like yesterday). I'm learning that even though i know the way "home" it pays to activate the route home so i'm not surprised by a traffic accident like i was yesterday taking an additional hour to go FIVE MILES! So, its saved my butt a couple of times, when turned on, and made a believer out of me. when it says rerouting due to traffic conditions.....i now listen and follow its advice.
My wife has the 430 garmin in her 2011 liberty and i like it but prefer mine now...but it took a little getting used to.

that said, all these things go away after the 1 year subscription.....anyone know what the price of renewal of ALL the features will be?

Dont buy the 730. Take the money and go to your local audio shop. They can put in a full system for that price.

sub
amp
wires
door speakers
in dash dvd with all the goodies

or if you can do it yourself you can save 800$

You missed a lot of things. Other than navigation, there are many cool features. I have the 730. I could not be happier. It connects to my droid and my wife's iphone, through bluetooth. It will create a contact list from your phone. It can play pandora from my phone. I can even control pandora from my steering wheel. It can play your phone's music file and control it through the steering wheel. It integrates well with your ipod. Using a flash drive, you can load music and picture files. It is very easy to personalize the background screen to a photo of your choice. You can replay a song you like from the sat. radio. If you like a song or artist that is playing, the system will let you know when the artist or song is being played on another station. The handsfree system seems solid to me. I like it a lot. You will miss out on the next generation of audio/nav systems if you dont get it.

I have not tried Pandora yet, but the 430 can do all that as well. It connects to my iPhone 4, you can download music and rip from CD's. Again, the only differences I am aware of are the Nav interface (Garmin versus Harmon), the fact that an iPod connects via the USB, not the Chrysler cable in the glove box and the lack of Sirius Traffic. If there are other differences I have missed, I apologize.

I TOTALLY agree. The 730 is a pretty smart setup.

Traffic, etc.

I have found in the past, whether using a Garmin, Tom Tom or the 730N, the traffic is always toooooo late. I found it was better to listen to a local radio station that broadcasts traffic. Also, the fuel prices were never updated in time and not all the gas stations were there. Movie times were almost always correct since they don't have to update them as much. To me, that is not a good reason to get a 730N.

Also, since Garmin puts out 4 maps a year (I have been told it might be less in the future), I don't like paying a high price for them to be installed on my internal GPS. On my external Garmin GPS, I have free lifetime maps. I also like to input a GPS coordinate into my Garmin directly. I believe you can't do this with the 730 or 430 without putting it in a flash drive and loading it in. How are you going to do that on the road.

I guess I'm from the old school, or just getting too old. I don't want a radio system to do everything. If I want a DVD to be played, I have a portable that people can use in the back seats. I use my phone as a phone. Don't have a smart phone. My 130N has bluetooth so I can say commands and such and integrate my phone into it so I can call hands-free. My external GPS does so much more than the built in ones and cost so much less.

IMO, save the money, put it into a lift, tires, etc. or a new speaker system and get the cheapest unit there is. Even with the nice 730N, the speaker system sucks on Jeeps and you're going to have to upgrade it (pull out all your speakers, put in an amp, a new sub-woofer).

Just my opionion.

So, i plan to get an Ipad 2 with a dash mount, run Garmin software, run a dedicated power connector up to the dash from the 12v in the console. connect the ipad audio into the car speakers with the audio jack. I have everything the 730n would give me at about half the price. Plus, i get an ipad 2.
