Actually, I like to have some fun with all of your mentioned subjects, but oil wars are even more fun and real humerous at times! You should join in on the debate sometime...............

And, when you think about it, it is much cheaper for a car "breakage" insurance (extended warranty) than any other type of insurance. How much is most people's car insurance? $500-600 per year? Put a pencil to that...a 7yr warranty is $2k..7 Yrs worth of car insurance for the body is much much more. It's peace of mind for some people. It's not for everyone. Would you have auto insurance if it wasn't the law? If it makes you feel better, buy it. Again, I sell them. I bought myself the lifetime warranty for my new 13 JK I bought two weeks ago. I plan on giving this to my daughter when she can drive in 6 years. I am sure it will pay for itself more than two-fold.
Is the warranty transferable to your daughter or just keep it in your name and have everything fixed under your name. Either way brilliant idea. I will be buying the lifetime my kiddo will be getting my Jeep when she's ready for it.

The lifetime warranty is not transferable. You will have to keep the Jeep in your name in order for her to make a claim on the warranty. All the non-lifetime warranties are transferable.

I use to sale cars. My manager always pushed us to sale the extended warranties prior to the patron going in for financing. I learned this was their biggest money maker. Not only that but if you finance it into the vehicle your even more upside down from what the car is worth then what you now owe ( considering you don't put a huge downpayment). Lastly most people don't keep their cars longer than 5 to 6 years thats a fact. If it isn't built good enough to last that long the automaker would go out of business!

I purchased the 7 year / 120,000 miles for 1595.00 . I did it as piece of mind as I plan on keeping this thing until I don't drive any longer. With all the strange quirks going on with the new engine I thought it would be a good idea.

My current car is a 13 year old vehicle I bought it in 2002 so I've had it for 11 years. My wife had her car for 13 years. My next source of transportation will be a jeep and i plan on keeping it for 11 years and I hope to give it to my daughter when she's driving age. So I'll get the lifetime and just get all the warranty stuff done for her.

while not a complete deal maker, the lifetime warranty also provides free rental car anytime you take your car in for service. That may sound small but given the service we've been used to with my wives Lexus, when I first called to get the water pump fixed on my jeep and found out that the dealership didn't offer loaner cars I was a bit bummed (esp on a known issue) let alone didn't know how I was going to get to work for the day. But after sharing my need for a car, the service mgr noticed the lifetime wrnty and told me of the free rental car feature.

And roadside assistance and up to $1000.00 in hotels and meals if you are over 100 miles from home.
The other benefit most people dont realize is dealerships LOVE doing warranty work because the can go by book times for labor. (chrysler pays them for 4 hours labor but a tech can do it in 2 for example)
If they have 4 repairs waiting, the warranty work gets priority! In and out faster than people without service plans.

X2, as the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE THEM DRINK!
