A/C Question

Granted I am a YJ guy, but that being said it's time to start rolling the other family vehicles and I'd entertained a JK in lieu of my Tahoe.......Until today.

So had the opportunity to ride with another couple out to the state fair in Sacto today. 100+F temps. JK rode well, seats were comfortable, found it a little tricky getting in and out (but then I'm used to the driver's side of things). What I did find apalling was the A/C. We came out of the fair around 5:30 PM with the mercury topping 103. That poor JK A/C ran it's heart out and di a piss poor job of cooling the cabin down. Ladies in back got little if any cool air. We actually dropped the windows after a dinner stop at Fentons in Vacaville.

Is this the norm? For 16 mpg, I can be driving a plush Tahoe with a 5.3L V-8 with plenty of leg room for all and still hang meat in the cabin. Just curious.

In Chicago we have been getting 100+ temps with high humidity and I wear a suit to work; even with that, the cabin cools fast and after the first couple of minutes I put the air at half (or lower) power because I get cold.

Good to hear. Hell I was riding right front and we were directing it back, but the cabin never really got cold. Guess I need to go drive a new one.

Mine gets so cold my knuckles are freezing, but I can't really say for the rear seat as I haven't ridden back there. It's much colder than the A/C in my F150 by a longshot, though.

I do have screening behind the grille to protect from rock or bugs springing a leak in the condenser. It could be that their JK might be low on refrigerant?

If that is a big concern, stick with the Tahoe.
