It's great now so far. We took it around a little and headed home.
We had some time to do the route that we did the other week that the jeep could not handle with those gears. This time in 6th gear she went right through them and even my wife said it is pulling this time, it only dropped 1 mile an hour where it was dropping 8 miles an hour. It really feels like I though it should so we are happy so far.
Tonight we did these speeds with the new 373 gears.
50 mph (5) 2200 rpm (6) 1700 rpm
55 mph (5) 2450 rpm (6) 1975 rpm
60 mph (5) 2659 rpm (6) 2050 rpm
65 mph (5) 2900 rpm (6) 2250 rpm
70 mph (5) 3050 rpm (6) 2500 rpm
The jeep really feels better now. We've got to run to the VA on Monday and will get some highway miles and get some mpg's figures.
So for us this was enough change for the way we are outfitting our Jeep.
Thanks guys, we will see if the good vibes continue. One thing I noticed it felt like our old TJ after we had put in a high HP fuel pump and the better HP injectors
OK Something was wrong here, on our way home running 70 mph I did
notice we were passing a few vehicles not real fast but we were going
faster than most. We went out today and I threw in our Garmin NUVI
550 and checked the speedo, well our speedo was running about 6 mph
We went to the dealer and talked to the Service Manager and he figured
the mech forgot to recal the speedo for the new gears. He got out the
laptop and looked up the menus but there was no where to reset the gears
in the new software. So they have to call Chrysler Monday and get them
to reprogram my VIN with the new gears.
We took off for our ride anyway and I just used my GPS to keep me out
of trouble. We did rerun the RPM Speed Tests and it looks like you were
on the money Mike with where we should be. One thing I want to mention
that with the 373's we can run 6th gear at 40mph and accelerate, I am very
satisfied with this gearing and drive-ability we have now. We re-ran
those hills today with it only dropping one mph and we ran headwinds with
no problem with speed or power.
New Stats with 373 gears___________ 321 gears
50 mph (5) 2025 (6) 1600 __________(5) 1800 (6) 1400
55 mph (5) 2250 (6) 1780 __________(5) 1900 (6) 1500
60 mph (5) 2475 (6) 1900 __________(5) 2100 (6) 1675
65 mph (5) 2700 (6) 2100 __________(5) 2250 (6) 1800
70 mph (5) 2850 (6) 2250 __________(5) 2400 (6) 1950
75 mph (5) 3050 (6) 2450 __________(5) 2600 (6) 2075
I notice that I can start out in second like I could with my TJ, I also
can use 5th and 6th alot more in our driving than I could, I can also
skip a gear or come up when a light changes and do a rolling start
in a higher gear. I have not stalled my JK once since the gear change,
but I did a few times starting out in first or trying to do a rolling start
in second it just would not do it.
I don't know if you guys want more data but I'll check my figures again
when they get me reprogrammed.
I hope this helps someone else, is this data worth posting in it's own on
321 vs 373 gears.
Thanks again for all your help guys, I was starting to think I was making
a mistake not going lower but it is doing just what we hoped for. Thanks
again. For us not running larger tires this is just what the doctor ordered.
