Unhappy A little Deflated

I went to pick up my son at school the other day a little early and parked. When I started my jeep back up it sounded terrible (missing). I freaked out....I only have 5000 miles on it and I have only owned it for 4 months. I changed the only several weeks back and put in full synthetic. So I decided to take it back to the dealer. They kept it for two days and then told me they had to replace one of the piston heads because it would not fire. Its fixed now but my wife has been telling me that her friends don't like jeeps because they are always breaking down. I still love my jeep but was wondering what kind of experiences have you all had. This is my first and I have been super excited until this happened.

jeeps arent known for reliability or gas or speed.

I have 3 JKU's all bought in the last year. Put around 40K on them, only the 2008 needed any servicing (other than oil and filters). The 2008 needed front brake pads and read pads and rotors at 65K on the odometer. About $190. Jeep may have gone another 10K on the brakes -wasn't anything but routine maintenance. No complaints.

Wha? What kind of answer is that? I expect my Jeep(s) to perform as well as any other vehicle when it comes to craftsmanship, but like any other vehicle, some have a failure now and again.

Sounds like it is a 2012. Do a search in the section for 2012 head issues and you will find a few posts.

Seeing a lot of 2012 motor issues, is this just because people that are having issues are reporting it and 99% that don't aren't saying that everything is good?

Jeeps are known for reliability. I spent several hours researching that before I made the leap from my truck. Not sure where that came from.

Blasphemy! =)

Actually, the older 4.0L equipped XJ's are known for TREMENDOUS reliability, especially the '87-'99 XJ's.

I just sold my 1995 with 155K on it and it still runs perfect and never left me or my wife stranded once in the last 6 years.

Bought the extended warranty thing, so I could be covered on pretty much everything until 7 years or 70k miles

For all the "work" that I have had to do to mine, it basically is all maintance work considering the roads where I live are always under construction. Try doing 35 to 40mph off road, your bound to break or wear out parts.

Other than ball joints, steering arms and the bolt kit for preventative medicine, I've only done the stabilizer bar for personal feeling of the Jeep --read, old one still good at time of removal--, and plugs. I do those every other year, no matter what car, or Jeep I drive

Thanks for the info...I will search the "2012 head issues" to see what is going on. I am hoping that I wont have any more trouble. I do really like my jeep and I have talked to a lot of others that have had good luck with their jeep....Onward and upward

Always the possibility of a little water in the gas tank too. BTW, the old days of dumping a plastic bottle of rubbing alcohol in the tank are just about over to remove water. Did it the other day to my Mom's van and when it didn't work, I read the label = 50% water. WTH? It used to be 25% water and would work fine. I have a source for 100% IPA, so I carry 3 bottles in my kit now.

You've got a 2011 though according to your profile, right?

If so, different motor.

They've sold over 100,000 2012 Wranglers now. The 6 engine problems you've read about here are definately a sign that engine problems are widespread.

Very well put.

I'm at about 8500 on my '12 JKUR and (knock wood) and so far the only real problem was adjusting the parking brake at the last oil change.

I'm sorry to read about the OP's troubles. It sucks when stuff breaks and I'll be just as sad when it eventually happens to me too.

I did experience the cold running vibration issue until I put some padding between my heater lines (there is a thread here about this issue) but I don't even remember being annoyed by it. It was simply something I noticed that was mentioned in a thread so I took care of it.

I take my Jeep trail riding at least twice a month if not more.
Every time we're done on the trail she shakes the mud off of her hooves, we head to the car wash and it's back to the regular routine during the work week again.

My Jeep thus far is everything I'd hoped she'd be and more.

so far, no issues with my 12 5400 miles. 2008, still doesn't leak or burn oil, but i am sure it is coming, lifetime warranty though.

Yes...I have a 2011 and not a 2012, but I was not sure if there may be similar issues.

I have experienced a little cold start vibration but only once or twice since I live in Texas and it has been a very mild winter...and actually its now summer!... But I assume that is not what caused the issue since it only has 5000 miles and it has only done that once or twice.

I honestly think it is the Grand Cherokee's that started giving Jeep a bad name. Too many WIDESPREAD problems with those, across all years.

Wagoneers were pImP!

Huh?

Why would you put straight alcohol into a fuel system that wasn't designed for it?
