A mission for Pato1031

Pat, Do you think you could find out if a dash grab handle from a 2011 would fit previous JK's? If the parts are available to look at you might be able to tell. If so, what is the part number for the 2011 handle?

Off for the weekend, in IL all stores are closed on Sundays. I'll get what I can on Monday. Part number for sure. mopars website shows it as an individual part so I'll get that to you.

Been trying to picture it and I don't think it will work.

In my mind the handle on the 11s is curved at each end, plus the way the dash has changed. But I bet there is someone who could make it work.
We have 4-5 really good techs who like a challenge like this. I'm lucky that the techs like to do this sort of thing after hours just for something different to do. For them it becomes a chance to say "I told you I could do it".

Not hijacking - but did you ever find out if the nut tray holder for the rear storage would fit?

There are 2 part numbers for the grab handle

1QE40DX9AB THE HANDLE ITSELF
1SU89DX9AA THE APPILQUE (JEEP SINCE 1941)

The rear cargo with the places for the bolts/screws # is

1QA78DX9AB

The grab handle should work Daggo,

Gdub, I think the cargo organizer is different. To me the placement of the rear subwoofer and the tailgate trim is different.

Thank you! Now comes the wait for it to become available, if at all.

On mopar.com you can order the grag handle, or you can go to your dealer and order it.

That's kind of the opposite way I saw this going. I'm really surprised the grab handle will work. I wondered about the subwoofer trim affecting the cargo piece though.

If you look at the way the grab handle is positioned on the 2010 you'll see why I think it will work. I guess I'll have to try it now. Thanks Kool

On every pic I've seen I always said "no way" on the grab handle, so I'm surprised at this outcome. If somebody does it, please post a pic. I know we'd all love to actually see it. (And then will probably do it. )

Even if it doesn't work for the handle, though, I wonder if the applique alone could be made to fit . . . .

I really though the bolts on each side of the applique were for show. Now I know those bolts are actually used.

but hey you guys mod the heck out of your JKs and JKUs someone should be able to make it work. Just melt the plastic and remold it, simple right?

Like I said, i figured you could move the mounting bolts over...

again I'm not a mechanically inclined person, just thought it might be a pretty easy thing to do if you have some inclination.

No reason to bust my chops if you thought otherwise...

No no, pato, I wasn't busting your chops. You posted about the bolts while I was creating my little 2010/2011 comparison pic, so I didn't see your post until after I had already posted the comparison with the "Really??" comment. I was referring to the the plastic "humps" on the 2011 dash and the angled contact points on the grab handle, which sure make it look like a tough fit regardless of any bolts. I was also under the impression your conclusion was based on the opinion of your service guys. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No worries MTH, I'm not a thick skinned type of guy,

when you put "really" I wasn't sure where you were coming from, now all I can think about is Amy Poehler and Seth Myers on SNL doing the "really" skit.

Hmmm, when I looked at someone's dash pic, I thought it seemed very close. Now looking at your pics it doesn't look like there's a chance in hell they are interchangeable. It also looks like the glovebox became more narrow.

Yeah, I was excited for few minutes about putting one in my Jeep too, and then some deep part of my brain went "Wait a minute . . . ."

But, keep an eye out for third party vendors. Folks on this forum can't be the only ones who like that grab handle. I wouldn't be surprised to see after market kits "commemorating 70 years" or whatever with a similar look.

all you need is two fabricated angle pieces... some nice teak wood if you want to do it the easy way, or maybe some form of stone if you're a glutton for punishment... I got a chunk of petrified wood that's big enough to carve a set from...

The "just melt the plastic" concept has NEVER worked for me personally, but I might be doing it wrong
