A new way to monitor transmission temperature 07 or newer

Hey, I was looking for a way to monitor my transmission temp on my 2007 Commander without drilling, wires etc.... While I was at it, I added the Wrangler transmission temp to get a bigger audience (also other Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep models). If you have an Android smartphone (or not..see the end), you can get an OBD II bluetooth Elm327 adapter cheap (yea, it's chinese but it works...) on ebay or other sites and use a program called DRIVE from the Android marketplace (search "Transmission Gauge"). One thing though...your jeep (or other Chrysler/Dodge) has to be 2006 or newer (it uses the CAN protocol). For more info, see www.drive02.com

If you don't have an android phone: This is what I did for my neighbor.. search ebay for android phone "bad esn" 2.1 ,where you can't use the phone service but you can use the wifi to download the app from the android marketplace and use it on the phone (no monthly fee). Try to avoid AT&T bad esn because some block the marketplace for some reason.

P.s. - Yea I probaly should do this in the vendor section, but until I get rich and famous (yea right...), I'm just trying to get the word out.

Richard

I have a Dodge Diesel truck with gauges for a few different things. Geno's Garage is an online shop that sells gauges and gauge mounts for various things. Go to Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories – Geno’s Garage and click on the top left link to get into the store product list. Down the list a ways is a link for all the gauges and mounts they have. Plenty to choose from.

Just a note: Torque for Android and Rev for iPhone do not support transmission temp for Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler.

A note to DRIVE (Android) users:
When selecting a transmission and the Wrangler 2007+ selection does not work for you, use the other selection: /Jeep V6 2007+.

This will be changed in the near future to:
/Jeep V6a 2007+
/Jeep V6b 2007+

Thanks,
Richard

Did you do a recent update? I haven't been able to get mine to work and went out to try what you just said and it gave me an error so switched back to Wrangler 2007+ and all of a sudden it worked. First time since I bought it for my android 4 months ago.

Glad it works now. Thanks for what ever got it going

I contacted Ian about Torque yesterday because I cannot get Drive to work for my 2011. thanks for your help Richard, but it still is not working. Ian told me how to pull up a third way to monitor transmission temperature in his Torque app. So now I have tranmission temp for my 2011 in torque.

I still would like this app to get working though, because of the settings for an alarm at an adjustable set point. Any further help would be appreciated.

Can you PM me that way to get torque to work or post it in the Torque thread. Thanks

I tried the one were you select other and it lists a temp 3 but that turned out to be the coolant temp. Seeing drives numbers help me realize it was wrong and I so happened to have the coolant temp beside it. All he told me was he was waiting for the PID to get it to work but didn't have it yet.
