I was in the city today & saw a blue version. This question came to mind, do any of you get asked by non-Jeepers (and possible other Jeep owners) "What does the Willys on your hood mean?" Since the name disappeared in the early 60s, probably not too many are familiar w/ it.
Me too! Had to educate them so I could order the one that I wanted!
Willys was, of course, the iconic Jeep manufacturer during WWII. The name on the 2014 & up is simply a nod to the heritage of our Wranglers, which descend directly from the WWII Willys vehicles.
I originally felt like a tool correcting everyone on the pronunciation. Now its my mission. I was even thinking of getting it phonetically spelled out with new hood decals.
How about you guys? Are you bothered by the "Willy'S" or is it just me???
So far the only one who knew what "Willys" was is my 93 year old grandmother. She saw it and said "Oh, you got a Willys Jeep just like Uncle Frankie used to have". She even pronounced it correctly, too.
Of course, I have no idea who Uncle Frankie is/was, but that's besides the point...
