Hello All,

I am getting my first jeep in a couple of weeks (D1 status) and i am just curious if i should get an AAA membership? I currently own a VW and it came with a VW Roadside Assistance program. I tried to see if Chrysler offers something like that but the only thing i could find was a warranty towing service on the Jeep webside. I guess thats not exactly the same as roadside assistance...but who am i to know. Any suggestions, tips or experience on that matter? Thank you all in advance cause anything will help. In case i should get it.....any rebate codes thru the forum? Or maybe even better alternatives other than AAA?
Thank you again

(Awesome Forum btw!)

I have road side through Verizon. Since I have GPS navigation, I really can't justify the cost of AAA anymore. I pay $3 a month through my cell phone and it has a quick link on my phone. I am pretty sure Att offers a similar service to their customers.

:whistling: I've been with AAA for 4 decades and thats because They're still in the red for my account-

I've collected over $100,000 bucks from them and my rates have never been raised-

I hadem in Ca. and now in Nv--it's a great organization with an informative monthly mag, great road service too

Can't beatem

AAA plus for me, family plan. Over the years I have used it several times. It is nice to just make a phone call and they respond. Chrysler roadside assistance program....I used it once. The tow truck that responded refused to go to where my jeep was to rescue me. It was a published road but not maintained in Barnstead, N. H. He said have your friends pull you out to the parking lot about a mile away and I'll come and tow you. I got someone to pull me out. They never responded the next day. Waited about 5 hours. Got pissed and went under the jeep and temporarily connected the linkage to get it into 2WD after the bushing from hell (60 cent part) broke then drove it to the dealership. I wonder if AAA would have told me to have my friends get me out of there?

My cell phone provider had RSA. Never used it though. Believe its $5 a month in with my bill. I save 10% on my bill because of work so I don't see it. Free assurance :)
Just something else to look into. Never used AAA

Edit... What Rics said, missed that :)
I have AT&T

Years ago in my 54 Willys Overland, I went down the Old Swamp road......

it was an old access logging road and I always wondered 'why' it was called that....

It was out in the sticks near where I lived, and I had traveled it many times......in the dry summer I moved up there.....but this was late fall and the monsoons had started. What had been a dry deeply rutted swale about 40 yards long where the top of the steering wheel was about level with the sides of the cut.... pretty easy IF you could make it around the corner and the large off cant root wad without slipping into one or other of the ruts...which usually would high-center the careless driver regardless of his rig.

Rain had collected filling the ruts but leaving the center so it looked 'not that hard'.....Did I mention how greasy the mud was?.....so it swallowed my Precious and the 5.88s were of no help in reaching the bottom where the truly mad had gone before.

So I walked to supplicate before Bart, my loudmouthed neighbor. He brought his nice 4x4 down to rescue me....but got it stuck. Then he went to get his old 4x4....and managed to blow the engine due to over heating when he ran a tree branch thru the radiator.

So he went to get his tractor.

Managed to pull me out but it was way too dark by then to get HIS rigs out until the next day.

Wonder what AAA would have done in that situation.

Unlikely any tow rig would have gone a mile down that greasy-mud slime hole. It was WAY off the gravel, and 10 miles from pavement....way up a steep old logging load.

JJ,

Now that I would agree with. And I would have had a great jeeper experience getting it out. Mine was in a wash-out but he could have gotten me out. His lack of enthusiasm to help me get out got me to "get dirty" under the jeep and learn a few things. It is what makes a jeep owner stronger....and independent.

Nice descriptions of your situation. Almost puts me there with ya.

If you get the maintenance plan when you buy your Jeep, it includes 36 months worth of oil changes + roadside assistance.

I got it because it was a deal I couldn't pass up (I ended up knowing the finance guy from playing Poker with him). Mostly got it for the oil changes though.

I already have AAA, and renewed for a year right before I got my JKU, so I have both for now. I may cancel AAA when it comes up for renewal next time though.

I used to have AAA, for 15 years or more. Called them twice in that time. The first time it was nearly 4 hours before they showed up. The last time, and I mean last time, they were over 5 hours.

So much for AAA Plus. Now I have road side assistance on my insurance.

AAA is like the best horse and buggy company when automobiles came out. They will be around for a while but unless they change they will fall to the way of the buggy makers. GPS and other services pretty much took away most of their needed services and Road side is all thats left for the most part and they are just too over priced. But their loyal customers will keep them on life support for a few more years. Hopefully they will adapt. The Iphone and Android smart phones are just taking over their other services and with other companies offering cheaper road side it is just a matter of time.

Cheaper isn't always better. AAA has best CS and when you call them, you always know for sure they are on their way and that there isn't gonna be any charge, not then or later.
Last time I used em I had parked at airport for week. Only took my key fob with me, less to loose. Got back battery dead so not only was my batt dead, I couldn't even get in my car. From the time I made the call to the time I was driving down the road, 12 MINUTES.
Yes, I will always have AAA.

I travel a fair amount and always ask for AAA discount. It pays for my yearly membership in first couple nights.

Wouldn't even think of NOT having AAA!
Good point. Im a tour guide. And when I was last in Hawaii I called hertz to get a jeep (duh!) and they said they had nothing left I said how about a mustang, again nothing. Called the number on the back of my card picked up a 2010 jku 30 minutes later. For less than I would have paid for a impala.

I used to have AAA when I was a bit younger and my vehicles were a lot less reliable. It sure did come in useful, several+ jumps and a tow or 2.
I've actually been thinking about it again. I do have roadside with my insurance however it just follows the car.....not the driver.

Great discounts, great service. Def worth it. If you ever need a tow you paid for your membership right there. Plus all the discounts you get, auto services, movie tickets, trip services, etc. Awesome.

AAA Positives: Discounts at many places including NAPA!!! Plus all that towing stuff.

AAA Negatives: You have to be within winching distance of a paved/named road... found that out the hard way. Make sure you specify what you need when calling for a tow. They have sent 2 wheel lifts for my jeep :)nonono:) and the smallest flat bed for my truck that nearly lifted its front wheels of the ground when they where sliding the bed back onto the wrecker.

Other than those two items I couldn't be happier with AAA.

Besides the other benefits beyond RSA, I also like the fact that AAA also works if you are a passenger in someone else's vehicle.

We have the family AAA plan and have had for years. Some years we use it others we don't but it's nice to have.

Also nice that they will come and fix a flat. With 37s my wife simply cannot get the spare off the tire carrier.
Never thought of that. And with 37's I don't WANNA take it off the carrier. I've muscled semi truck tires around and it just ain't fun.
