About to order a Jeep opinions are welcome

Hi folks,

I am about to order my first Jeep and any insights/advice/opinions would be appreciated. I currently own a 2005 PowerWagon which I love but decided that a Jeep I could love more with the right set-up. I have plans to use the Jeep as an eye catcher for my business with company logo.

Like the color! That's a lot of cash for the AEV options. Seems like you can do it afterwards for less.

Personal opinion? Skip the AEV stuff. $14K will outfit your Jeep nicer for LESS.

Now, personal choices....

Body colored top....just an extra piece that you can scratch, annoying to wax, etc. Make absolutely certain you love it. 4.10 gears indicate you are getting a rubicon correct? Jeep will look weird with a color top and black flares IMHO. Having a black top breaks it up. Again, personal choice.

Again, personally, I strongly advise against the AEV package. It's overpriced, and completely takes the fun out of building a Jeep. If you have the 14K laying around, DEFINITELY skip it, and go apesh!t with our sponsors. If you want the AEV pack because you can finance the 14K and not have to shell out money, that's a different story.

I just went on the AEV Website for their turnkey options. I did not price AEV products out separately or similar products from other brands. Thought it should be cheaper in a package deal. You bring up a good point!

Correct Rubicon U.!

I am back and forth on the color or black flares/ hard top combo. Really decided against the side flares being painted because of scratches. But, then I see a picture of a jeep that is painted with the right look and I like it again LOL!

I included some picks of what I mean below. Hard to decide. I know what you are saying about building your own jeep up as a hobby. Does kind of take the fun out of it. But, yes I don't have 14K sitting around to go apesh*t right now. Also, would get away with it concerning the wife now and not later. She's would expect a ton more shopping sprees if I started putting thousands into the jeep on and off later on.

I had colored flares from factory (I have a sahara) and I removed them the first day. I knew they would get scratched to hell. I love the fact that with rock rails, it's almost impossible to scratch my paint on the street, and I don't have to worry about the fenders getting beat up off road. Again, it's a personal thing...but remember, the painted flares have a lot of issues....ie cracking paint, etc etc etc. It wasn't for me. Same goes with the roof...I love the fact that it's one less piece (a huge piece at that) that requires maintenance, ie, waxing, buffing, etc etc etc. I love the fact that I can throw things on the roof, and not worry about ruining a paint job. Don't get me wrong, I do like the aesthetics, but practicality for a Jeep? Not for me.

I love the same colored flares. If this is to highlight your business you can always replace the painted flares as a business expense if you scratch them up.

I think your right I've decided not to go with colored. Was thinking about how much of a pain in the arse it would be worrying about scratching the top when taking it off, storing it during summer, etc.

Now AEV package that's a really hard one....are they really that over priced?

Do you have them? Had any issues if so? To bad I can't write-off the complete expense of the jeep as I was trying to find ways to do so.

depending on where you live - consider the heated seat option

also - I'd say no to the painted top - I don't like the look

re all the AEV options - personally seems like a lots of cash...

I'm doing something similar in that my Jeep will be somewhat of a company car with logo etc.

I don't have it yet but I placed my order for a Rubicon as well & just about every option other than a hard top.

Since this will be a company vehicle you may want to consider color unless the white is a must. In the past I have usually gone with black cars but I know how every ding & spec of dirt shows up on the black paint so I went with the billet on the Jeep. In my personal opinion, since this Jeep will have my logo on it & somewhat represent my company I want to keep it looking clean & I know I probably wouldn't have time to go by the wash every time it rains like I would have to with black & probably white paint.

Just a thought.

You are paying A LOT for the labor, and the tinsel. I do completely understand your situation of the wife and the finances...it's easier to roll 14K into a payment then to lay out 14K. However, I personally maintain, you will have more fun building it EXACTLY how you want it with the EXACT parts you want, as well as doing the labor yourself, learning about the rig, feeling pride of "You built that" (thanks Obama ) etc. I'd rather have the OEM leather than the AEV stitched seats. You will also take a bath if/when selling it, since you overpaid by so much. There are some things you may want that you can't have (unless you get rid of your expensive goodies that you paid for) and some things that you have that you don't want. If you are in no hurry, and have a steady income that will allow you to mod at a steady pace, I'd say do it yourself.

Heated seats are a nice option here in Indiana in the Cold months.

I have a Black JKU with Black flares. I have not had any issues yet, I have only owned the Jeep two weeks. I'll keep you posted.

I've never had any other color except black or white so I am right with you. I do like the billet though it looks sharp. I've never seen one in person so I will be sure to check one out at a dealer. Been thinking about how to place logo's and graphics but there is not a ton of choices as the canvas is limited. Thinking simple would be the best route to insure a clean look.

I live in Ohio and I plan on getting the heated seats. I thought I selected that option but I may have missed it. I just bought my wife a Ford Edge with heated seats and was surprised how it warms you up in a hurry. I've sat in cars with leather and not heated and thought my bum was going to freeze off.

You do make a good point so much in fact your making this hard on me lol. Was hoping I would get rave reviews on this set up and it would be a no brainer to go with it. I am used to going big as with my current PowerWagon with BF 35's lift and some other nice after market goodies on it. I bought it that way but I won't get much credit for it on a trade it appears.

Which now that I think about it I wonder how the warranty runs with a AEV option. Because with the after market parts I had on my PW the dodge dealership would not fix an issue I had. They were trying to have me go back to OEM specs. I laughed at them!

If you have time to keep the white clean for the image of your business I'm sure it won't be a problem. For me I just know I won't have the time to always go by the wash & I know grays/silvers don't show dirt & water spots nearly as much as black or white.

Although I like the look of the exposed spare tire on the back I'm going to get a custom tire cover made with the logo & contact info on it just because it's so simple. One thing you could consider in terms of putting a logo on the body would be a car magnet, you could do that on the doors and/or hood.

I believe the AEV from the dealer is covered by the normal 3/36 warranty...factory installed parts/factory warranty. But I would not buy the package from the dealer. I just purchased a White Sahara with Black top. I am going to add selected AEV pieces...slowly....as I decide which pieces I want.

There's a lot of value, for me at least, to picking it up and just driving it. Especially since this is a business expense and, I assume, you'd like to get it going ASAP, I don't think the package would be a bad choice.

And bright white always looks good, especially if your wrap/logos contrast.

About AEV:

Are they over-priced? Not in my opinion, but they are significantly more expensive than most other similar products. Think apple versus HP. This price hike is due to research, good people, stamped steal technology, and fit and finish (which is as good/better than factory floor).

The package purchase from AEV is similar to buying a Shelby Mustang, or an AMC Mercedes. AEV is a licensed performance package and is serialized. The performance AND comfort are far beyond factory for all components. I don't think you can say that about most other aftermarket parts.

You can write off a good deal of it. Check out the attached pdf...it's got the bonus depreciation model you can use for your taxes. Take it to your tax attorney and listen...cha-ching!!!

If you only have a single mod UNFRIEND dealer in your area, that's another thing to consider. Personally I'd laugh in their face and tell them to pound stand, but many don't want that headache. If the dealer wants to deny you warranty, they have to prove it, and cosmetic mods are impossible to prove anything. I havent had any issues with my dealer so far, but I also never had any problems yet, so we will see. My mods are cosmetic though, no drivetrain mods yet.

Thats a misconception IMHO. White (many of my sports cars were white) is actually excellent at hiding dirt. This is simply because the way the human eye functions. If your jeep is muddy, yes, it will look filthy, but general "rain dirt?" White actually looks clean. Black is the only color I will NEVER own. I love the way it looks clean/waxed, but it looks like that just long enough for you to snap a photo.

One last comment....I notice you said this will be a business vehicle...if you are going to write it off on your taxes, it may make sense to get the AEV package. You can write the car off, but wont be able to write the mods off later.

You are correct on the warranty. I just checked and it is the 3/36. My girlfriend and now wife had a decked out Sahara and I loved it. Had the top down all the way to S.C from Ohio when we went on vacation. Can't get that free feeling anywhere else unless of course you have a motorcycle

I agree since this is a business purchase I can get away with more. If this was a personal purchase odds are I would be taking the slower approach and making this an awesome hobby. Bright white does make a great canvas I would assume this would give me more options.

Used the numbers on the form you sent and talked to my accountant and it looks like I will be able to write off around 85-90% at the highest. Not bad at all!! There is more to it on how this is done with different options and calculations regarding writing off expense,miles,gas, payments. etc. But, all in all I am really happy with those numbers. Toooo bad medical did not have such discounts....

The package purchase from AEV is similar to buying a Shelby Mustang, or an AMC Mercedes. AEV is a licensed performance package and is serialized. The performance AND comfort are far beyond factory for all components. I don't think you can say that about most other aftermarket parts.

This was my first impression and feel on the package. I was considering going with a Roush Raptor but the cost and trade in value was really a bad combination. They were trying to get me into a Mustang but it's not me. I am more of a Jeep guy anyway so it was an easy decision not to go that route. I went to a dealership and looked at the top of the line of what they had -MOAB- which was really nice. I asked if it was possible to get larger tires, lift, etc. And said "no dealers offers that" I would have to do this on my own. Was about to purchase it because it had everything else I wanted. I had a bad feeling though and did not like the sales guy. Glad I went with my gut because upon doing some research discovered AEV. The dealer I went to was of course not an authorized dealer.
