OK first thing to do is consider if you want to do this mod. ( i did), first thing to do is remove the box from the console ( removal of the whole console is not necessary) locate the 5 t-20 (per side) torx screws and remove you will also have to remove the 2 t-30 torx screws 1 each side. next is to work the back piece off remove the cup holder and gently pry the outer trim piece away, reach in and lift the rear piece off its locking tabs, once that is far enough off unplug the power window harness, next is to work the trim up and over the "box" witch is your console once you have it move back far enough look down inside and locate the large wire harness and unplug that, now you can remove it and set it aside.
next is to locate the accelerometer to the right of the E-BRAKE cables. find the purple wire with the lite blue tracer, and cut it, ( now your committed )turn on ignition and see if the abs-esp-bas lights stay on,,, if they do you cut the right wire, next is to wire in a single pole switch (on-off) and find a place that suites you. i choose the front panel next to the E-BRAKE. there is plenty of depth there for the back of the switch and wires. wire in your switch and check that all your connections work before reassembly , once everything is back in place recheck before you put all your hard ware back,,,

I've been driving around yesterday and today playing with it on and off, the one thing i did notice right away is coast ability , taking your foot of the gas on the highway the jeep coast along in does not slow immediately. i also have put it through some maneuvers it drives fine,,

Hmm.. not a fan myself, as it completly disables the ABS brakes and the brake lock diff. Have just done the chicken dance on mine and that leaves the ABS in offroad mode (lower senstivity) and leaves the ELBD fully active, but all the power zapping ones are off (so no traction control, no electronic roll mitigation and no ESP).

I think im gonna pull the fuses and wheel like that for a day and than decide if I want to do the switch or go with the dance. I like all those functions when driving in snow. My jeep is a little weird in snow. My XJ loves the snow, JK not so much.
from what i have read the fuse is part of the fuel pump circut, when i pulled my fuse the jeep ran for 30 seconds or so and died, put it back it cranked for almost 2 minutes before it refired, thats why i did the wire cut.

Does this apply on the 07 as well? Id like to do this and is it safe if i drive with it all the time with the traction controll off. If im reading this right if the light is on it is disable therefore meaning the breaks wont kick it around turns or while peeling out in sand in 2wd. Sorry for all the questions

i have been driving with it off since i posted back in march, i have driven on snow, freezing rain, ice, i have had no issues.
remember think twice before you do this mod if you choose to do it.

The factory button only puts the traction control in partial off. It still kicks on with too much wheel spin. Wish you could just push the button and disable it, but it doesn't work that way. May try this mod although I'd honestly like to retain ABS even with it off. Oh well...

you can switch it, off is off and to turn it back on just flip the switch and cycle the key and presto its all on... other wise you would never ever pass inspection.

Oh okay i thought the switch was able to turn it on and off. Thats a little different story if you cant switch.
Ya ^^ that is what I meant.

I myself would not want to totally disable it.

Green-u mentioned cruising when you let of the gas--does that benefit at all?
This is an older thread, I just picked up my 07 in July and been reading up on this a little and trying to understand it more.

yes with every thing on,,, say cruising at 60mph, and you get out of the gas you can feel that down "shift" (if you want to call it that) and you instantly loose speed,,,, with it off and back out of the gas it just cruises and slowly looses speed,, kind of hard to explain with out really feeling for your self. your in CT. meet me half way some saturday or monday and i'll let you drive it on the highway. you'll be able to see what im talking about.. even my wife could tell the difference. ( she does not like it, because she is vision impaired and has trouble with depth perception)

Will do.

I know exactly what your talking about. Driving a older Tj and a yj for over 10 years the Jk acts a lot different. It kind of Feels like "engine breaking"

Never could figure out why it does that--it's purpose??

You have an auto or manual?

The ECU does some weird sh*t on this thing.

Its not really Chrysler's fault for introducing such an over-controlling computer setup. Its now law that all new vehicles must contain the ESP system - its easier than teaching people how to drive I guess.

Disabling completely will, as mentioned previously, make the vehicle unroadworthy, so when you go for inspection (if required in your area) make sure you avoid mentioning the switch and what it does!

The chicken dance disabling feature is technically not road legal either, but they tell you that in the manual if you read far enough in!

I have read so many forums this at this point my head is full. It seems toe this will definatky work on a 2013 although the wire u need is in a different place (I forget where) but will work because the ecm is the same but for me with the new 2014 I can't find any info and I dont want to start cutting cords I know the ecm was changed this year so I'm screwed for now

Wow...this Thread brought back from the grave, is over four (4) years old.. :beerme::beerdrinking:

If there is a reason for this and it stays on Topic, then O.K.
But if not, then it's going away!!!!

Yes, yes and yes :happyyes:

I just returned from a week long trip to Death Valley, months prior I installed a coil over long armed system, since the install I have had this rollover sensor activate several times while on and especially off hwy, in fact just a few days ago a friend was falling me on a hwy when I came to a turn this system shut down my Jk to the point of nearly getting rear ended.

Off hwy its a PITA if your on fire roads traveling +170 miles a day. One common example would be while in a nice 40-50mph drift, this system activates drops the throttle and it feels like it's on the brakes and will change your direction of travel and can cause you to loose momentum and to correct.

It has also happens while in 4low while crawling of which can't come on at a worst time.

I completely understand that this issue is caused by the major body roll caused by the coil overs and 14" of travel.

Maybe there are not so many JK user that experience this problem but a few are and I will soon be referring to this thread in the near future to completely disable this sensor along with traction control permanently.

So Mr. Moderator thanks for leaving this dusty ole tread open until the cows come home. :action-smiley:

Unknown I am waitin for someone more knowledgeable to chime in. But 14 and 15 have different electronics as the prior models. 2015 ecu's are completely locked from tuners.
