Absurd resale

I traded my 2013 JKUR in last night on a 2016 crew cab 2500 HD. I had my share of complaints about my Jeep, but I will say this - I have no qualms whatsoever with the resale. I bought my JKUR for 35,500 four years ago and got 30k for it as a trade with 45000 miles on it. That's with a dented bumper, some paint chips on the hinges, and stained seats.

That's just crazy. Before that I had a 2 door Rubi I drove for two years and only lost 3500 on it for resale with 25k on it. Think about that - I bought two new vehicles over six years, drove them for about 70k miles combined, and only lost 9 grand in resale. You could lose 9 grand in resale buying a Tahoe and driving it off the lot.

Anyway, I do love the Wrangler but we've got another little one on the way and I wanted something more comfortable for now. Once the kids get old enough to do some real trail riding I will probably trade the truck in for a JL. For now, I'm off the trail for awhile and hoping to do just some light camping and such with the truck.

I haven't posted much lately but I learned a lot here, so thanks for that. Sometimes I got grumpy over the stupid issues with my Jeep, hopefully the Chevy will be better in that regard. Or I'll just wind up whining over on the Chevy forums.

Well there ya go. Thanks again.

Amazing. And one of the reasons I chose the jeep.
I hope when it comes time to sell/trade, my experience will be similar.
What did you have done to it?

Good luck with the new truck.

I didn't do too much with the Jeep. 265/70R17 BFG AT KO2's for better winter performance, a front receiver and winch wiring for my multi-mount setup and that was it. I found the stock equipment to be more than adequate for my usage. I got some use out of the lockers, though! At least I can say that!

Sure. I paid 35k for a work truck with an MSRP just under 44. 6K in rebates, 3 from the dealer. I got KBB for the trade and the 35k was just a little under USAA pricing.

Basically, I figure I did ok, not exceptional. Could I have left, come back a week later and gotten 30,500 for the trade or paid 34,500 for the truck? Probably. Do I care? Not enough to risk seeing the truck go and pay the cost for a 2017.

Any way you slice it, the Jeep held its value really, really, ridiculously well.

Right! When shopping used I laughed at dealer list pricing and custom ordered a new at 1% over invoice with a Chrysler affiliates control number. They simply don't have the hard deprecation hit cars/trucks have.

If it weren't for the PITA of stripping the mods and reinstalling on a new one I'd be trading up now. ...though I miss having a truck, maybe a Raptor will come next.

You'll really enjoy the crewcab. Only real drawback is it's size, which you will soon notice when you maneuver around in a parking lot. I love my crewcab...so when I move to Florida, it's not coming with me. But my JK certainly is. Each one has it's merits, and your crewcab should serve you well.

My last JK I had for around 1-1.5 years and then traded it in. I didn't lose a penny on it and the dealer tried to sell it for higher than original sticker.

Don't regret selling the JK as I got a fun commuter car (which was needed) to replace it. Still looking to get back into a JK though and my 'commuter car' as I'm learning has a terrible re-sale value.

Ya know, you just shift with the winds as things change. I bought the 2 door JKR and drove it all over the back woods of north Idaho with the panels out, it was awesome. Moved in with my girl and got two big dogs, traded the JKR for the JKUR so we'd be able to take the dogs out for some fun.

Next thing you know, little man came along later and we managed with the JKUR and two dogs, but now we have a second kid on the way. Two kids, two large dogs, and any kind of camping equipment is not going to happen in a JKU.

For now, I plan to get a decent size travel trailer and rock the crew cab. Once the kids are old enough to help set up a tent, I will probably go back to a four door Wrangler and just get a little enclosed trailer to haul the camping gear.

"Seasons change, and so did I ..."

Enjoy your Jeeps, folks. Take the tops down or the panels out every chance you get, take the detour and see where the heck that little dirt road goes. That's what they are for, and there is nothing better at it.

i hear you on the resale thing, two years ago i bought a 2009 JKU for $272,000 pesos (i live in mexico) i believe 10 k and some change in that time, i just sold it for $280,000 pesos, and the only thing i lost was the suspension that i put on it...

so it was a great deal

good luck with that chevy and remember it doesn't mater what you drive as long as you keep exploring and teach your children about enjoying the outdoors.

i82much I did the same thing we had '04 TJ unlimited (it was the longer wheel base 2 dr). Due to cost of gas, commute and growing family we traded it in (Great Resale then) - Now we have 3 kids and just bought a '16 JKU 75th Aniv model last month - kids love it - my oldest son (14) and I went to wedding in south Florida and pulled off the highway outside Jacksonville to take the top down -

Life is to short - enjoy each and every moment with the kids - See you back soon.
