AC question

With the purchase of my 2011 JKU, I have inspired my uncle to buy a wrangler. He has been looking for a '07 or '08 JK. He found one that he is very interested in. Its a manual 08 2dr soft top with 40k miles for 15k flat. It only has one owner, and said to use it only as a daily driver, not much off roading. His only issue (before checking it out) is it has no ac. That wouldn't bother him so much, however, he lives in a hot area and has 2 young girls and wouldn't want to have the top off on really hot days with his daughters in his car. Would it be hard for him to add air conditioning to it? He is driving about an hour to see it so I wouldn't want him to waste his time if it's a complete no. What specific things should he be looking at when he is checking it out? He knows a good amount of mechanical knowledge but this would be his first jeep. So any advice for him would be great.

You can add one but it fairly expensive. A/C work has become a expensive work due to all the regulations involved.

I'd look for one with AC.

No, AC work has become expensive because the manufacturers have put all of the components in places that you can't get to without disassembling half of the vehicle. There are very few regulations that govern working on AC. The only one I can think of is the ban on discharging refrigerant into the atmosphere.

I agree with everyone else. The only way to economically add AC is for it to be done at the factory.
