Adding Hitch - Bad Luck???

Have 2012 Sport 2 Door. Thought it be an easy task to add a hitch. What I read here and elsewhere said it was a simple 4 bolt add on. I went to put the hitch on and the holes would not line up. The hitch will not go completely up on the box frame because there is a welding bead near the top of the beam where the hitch goes that is in the way. It looks like it is on both the bumper side and the muffler side. I may have to loosen the muffler and remove the bumper before I can grind it off. It is a Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch and it looks like it should fit. Has any one else had this problem or is it just my bad luck?

try to spread out the one side of the hitch I know when you tighten it down it will pull in tight to bumper. I wouldnt waste time grinding unless you really have to . Mine was really easy .

Are you talking about a weld on the Jeep frame? There shouldn't be anything there.

Yes, near the top of the box frame where the hitch would mount, there are small "glops" of weld bead. Not all the away across. I guess the robot had a bad day. There a small bead about 1/4" thick by 1 " right in the middle which is the biggest hangup right now. Tried spreading hitch apart and it help. But still hanking up. May have to find a small grinder to knock down that largest bead. Looks like I must just be lucky.

Grind it and then paint it to make sure it won't rust. That really sucks. It should have been a 15 minute job.

Just a final follow up. I finished my hitch install today. Several weeks ago, I finally got the hitch mounted after grinding off the excess weld. Unfortunately, I could only get 3 of the 4 bolts installed. The hole for the fourth one was not drilled out completely.

Today, I pulled the bumper off (after reading how easy it was) and drill the hole out. With the bumper off it was an easy task to line up the bolts. I might add , my hitch had the nuts welded to the hitch. So the bolts had to be lined up perfectly with the nuts for them to start.

If anyone has problems with their hitch install, I would recommend removing the bumper. It mounts with six easy to remove bolts and weighs next to nothing. Thanks for all your help on this.

I put my hitch and wiring kit on today. Tried doing it without taking the bumper cover off...I think I could have gotten all the nuts threaded on but there was no way in hell I was going to get a wrench on them for tightening. So...I relented and took it off.

I am new to the Wrangler forum...having sold my 2001 corvette coupe 2 weeks ago and purchased a 2011 Wrangler Sport a week later. I am a Lifetime member on corvetteforum.com. I had done quite a few mods to the vette over 6 years.

So now I get to start over here.

You know what I miss the most about my vette? The Heads Up Display (HUD). damn...I wish my Wrangler had that!

It definitely is since the information seems to be floating out at the very front of the car. Once you get used to having it, it's tough to drive other cars without it since you never have to look at the dash. It's about $800 for an aftermarket vette HUD, pretty cheap. But you need a special windshield for it. If you have full glass on your insurance...that's doable.
