Advice for Sound System Upgrade

I am in the process of upgrading the sound system in my 2014 JKU Sport. I just have the base stereo system with Sirius. Do I really need the PAC RP4-CH11 if I do not care about keeping the sterring wheel controls? It says it enables you to keep steering wheel controls, important warning chimes and amplified audio system. I do not care about the steering wheel controls and don't have the amplified system, so I am only concerned about the warning chimes. I do not want to loose function of something I actually need.

It's up to you but I'm upgrading mine soon and I am going to maintain the steering controls because it would bug the hell outta me if I cheaped out on it. It would feel like I half-assed it. It certainly won't be due to my need to use them... simply the feeling like my system wasn't correct.

It's not about being cheap! I've already have it and am a little intimidated by all the wires. This is my first DIY sound system upgrade. My husband has done a few and is good with wiring and he looked at it and said he didn't want to mess with it. So, it's really more about just how complicated this will be for a complete noob. I don't mind putting the work into figuring it out if it's necessary, but if it's just a convenience, I'd rather get started enjoying my new sound system sooner!

Personally I'd do it. If your husband isn't totally comfortable doing it himself pay someone who is. Or you can always do a speaker/amp/sub upgrade and keep the stock head unit. That way you won't have to mess with the controls on the steering wheel.

The wiring is very straightforward when you are replacing the radio with that adapter. Its plug and play after you wire it to the new radio. Even if you get stuck a little, there are people whose job it is to do these things. If you going to do it, do it all the way is something I always say.

You literally match up the colors on the PAC harness to your head unit harness. Then you plug it in. Much easier than trying to figure out jeep's harness, hacking it up and hopefully matching it up to your head unit. Not to mention causing communication problems with the CANBUS if you do it incorrectly.

I used the Metra steering wheel adapter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the Axxess radio wire harness http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it works great with my Pioneer AVIC-Z150BH. The steering wheel adapter is self programming, the only thing is the steering wheel button for voice(bluetooth) does nothing now(but probably could be manually programmed).
The Pac-Audio harnesses can be intimidating and a pain to program.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I'm gonna give it a shot since you make sound so simple. Here's what my set up is going to be:

Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS Head Unit
Polk DXi6501 Components (Dash)
Polk db 651s 2-ways (Sound Bar)
JL Audio 12" Sub
Sound Ordnance M4075 4-Channel
Sound Ordnance M1350 Mono

I used the same head unit. I really like it. I went all JBL's for dash, tweeters, soundbar and sub with an alpine 5 channel amp. Can hear everything at half volume at 75 on the interstate with the top down.

Anyone know if the 8500BHS is going to get the carplay update?

That's great! It will be nice to prove to my husband that I can make my Jeep sound great and all the money I have spent will be worth it! I have everything sitting in my spare room just waiting to be installed.

Looks like you're going to have a very nice system.

That will be sweet! I ran hdmi and lightning cables up into the tray above the head unit so that I can mirror my phone. It's nice, but not being able to control the phone by the head unit touch screen is a pain.
