Advice/Suggestion re: 4-bike rack on Wrangler

I have a 2007, 4-door Wrangler and I'm interested in getting a 4-bike rack. I don't have a rear hitch or any kind of hookup on the front bumper, so I'm kind of limited. Even though I have found some 4-bike racks that can attach to the spare tire, it seems like a lot of weight to support. Does anyone have any suggestions/thoughts or would this not be an issue.

Buy a rear hitch. They can be purchased for under $100, since you don't need any wiring. Then be aware that most 4-bike hitch racks are pretty darn crowded with 4 bikes in place.

Yeah, I wouldn't be hanging 4 bikes off the spare tire. I would recommend getting the hitch. I just purchased the Thule Revolver 4-bike rack. It swings completely out of the way, when you need to open the back gate and window. With the bikes on it.

Thanks for the advice
Absolutely. The thought of putting all that weight on the spare would have me worried. Two bikes, yeah, 4?? No!! Ordered a hitch a few days ago, should be in today's mail.
Now, to find a rack.
Thanks again for the input!!!!

After lots of searching threads and research I ordered the Saris T-Rax Pro 4 bike model for my 2010 Unlimited Rubicon. Well I don't know what is different about my spare compared to other Rubicons with factory spare, but the tire hits the mount when the rack is folded down, not allowing me to open the tailgate more than a few inches. Lots of others did this rack on the Rubi without problems? Quick fix was a spare tire relocator bracket to move it up, and new longer rubber stoppers. I love the rack, very nice and sturdy and easy to use. I had read a lot of threads about the Thule revolver stripping out when used alot, so I decided to go with the Saris. Good luck!

See my post here...
The Küat NV is expandable to 4 bikes. But it is pricey (IMHO, well worth it if you have $$$$ invested in your bikes)... I'd also look at Tule and Yakima.
As bflank said, the hitch receiver is inexpensive and an easy thing to bolt on. Go that route.
