AEV 2" lift issues

I recently installed the AEV 2" JK Spacer Suspension kit.

The front shock lower bracket extensions do not fit. It appears that when they used the design drawings for the size they did not take the thickness of the materials into account. None of the holes line up. I had to cut off the lower horizontal part of the brackets to allow the bolt holes to line up. Obviously without the horizontal parts of the brackets, there is no place for the vertical placed bolt at the bottom.

I emailed AEV last week about the problem. I received the automatic robo reply but have not received a single email even saying they would look into it.

You can buy after market extensions.
Try Synergy/TF.

I have a set of TF extensions if you want them.

Just to get you by.

Now that I think of it. When we installed my friends RC extensions. They needed a little finagling to work, but they fit.

Sure you don't have L&R mixed up?

FWIW They only go one way, mine lined up fine once I figured out what went where. Also, not sure I would wheel that very hard with the brackets cut off like that.

I have a 2011/ and had no issues at all with the brackets.. you can always get new shocks bilstein or any 2" lift shocks and just eliminate the brackets ( I plan on doing that this summer, just because I am not crazy about the rear shock spacers in the AEV kit )

TF extends the tops. I would think extending from the bottom would be stronger ?

Agree though - f the extensions and get better shocks.

It seems they could only go one way, the longer one on the outside and the shorter one on the inside just like in the picture. With the bottom horizontal on the hole on the extension would not reach up the hole on the bracket. For the inside piece the hole on the extension would not go down to align with the hole on the bracket.

huh, I woulda thought extending the top was the way to go, that looks very flimsy!

Not an engineer but I can tell you the extensions are made from thicker metal then the factory mounts and by the time you're done sandwiching them together they seemed plenty strong to me

I mean, AEV has jeep engineers, so I would assume they know what they are doing. Part of the strength of the factory bracket is that it's welded on, so even if the metal is thinner, the difference is attempting to sheer the factory bracket, vs this bracket, you mearly need to twist it out of the joint. Again, I'm sure it's fine, but it looks flimsy as hell!

Can anybody else with a 2012 confirm this? Im going to be ordering this kit for my 2012 JKUR when it comes in. I would prefer a simple install. Ive read several reviews of this kit and never heard of this issue. Hoping theres not an install issue with just the 2012s. Oh.....ive been emailing AEV about their products and a gentleman by the name of Greg Henderson has been getting back to me very quickly. Try sending your problem directly to him. I don't think the shocks install any different
on the 12.
Just upgrade the shocks instead of using the brackets-problem solved

I was thinking about Bilstein 5100s but then my question is, is $250 alot to spend on a levelling kit when i then have to buy $350 in shocks? For $600 im getting close to the price of some coil lift kits. Im just hoping to level out my jeep, and giving it enough height to run a 295 or 305 tire on stock rubi wheels. I will be buying the spidertrax spacers as well. Im thinking Ill just stick with the AEV shock adapters and hope ironaria's problem isnt the same on all 2012s. Maybe he just got wrong brackets accidentally in his kit?? Im definatley keepin an eye on this thread. Ironaria.....please advise as to AEVs response to this when you get one!!

Personally, I would throw together a bit more funds and get the Teraflex 2.5" coil lift with Bilsteins from Northridge for $750 shipped. Nothing wrong at all with the AEV spacer kit tho. Just too close in terms of cost when you factor in the shocks.

See your point. Shocks are a wear item and are vital to your on road/off road performance. If your jeep has the upgraded suspension with the "red" shocks, Your good. If you have the "black" shocks I wouldn't think twice about upgrading them.


I went with the extensions also, My shocks were do for an upgrade. Had to cut one out do to rust. Upgraded to the 5100's- like should have to start with-and love them .

Im getting a rubicon so I think they are indeed the red shocks, which from what I read arent really bad at all. Quite good for a stock mass produced shock.

Mine is a 2012 no issues just took a couple of minutes to determine which brackets went with which side no problem. If I was going to get new shocks I would just go with the 2 1/2" kit for $899. If you sell your current springs and shocks for$150 add the $259 spacer kit and $300 for shocks you are pretty close to the $899. JMHO
