Just installed my bumper with 10k smitty x2o winch. Love it. Thought I read where the winch shouldn't touch the grille but on mine it does, even pushes it in a bit. I wanted to get a neoprene cover but that won't be happening I guess. I could loosen the winch to get a cover on but it won't be much good if I can't get it off.
First question...should it really fit this tight? I don't see any alternative.
Second...how many folks really cover their winch anyway?
Cover? You have the synthetic line sure, get a winch cover. The line retains moisture and causes the spool to rust.
Mine was rusting after a year.
I am going out on a limb here and guess from the looks of the picture that you have not spooled your line in, under a good load.
IF THAT IS THE CASE, (and I hope my observation is wrong) your stacks will collapse during the first pull allowing the top line to pull down thru the upper stack. Then the spooled lines tighten down and trap the line in place. It is a bugger trying to pull the lineoutafter this happens.
Well I got a cover in but man....I guess the downside to these hide a winch type of bumpers is that it is a tight fit. I had to lessen the winch bolts to get the cover on....I think I could get front off enough to use the winch without taking the cover completely off. It is simply a tight fit and s p. I. T. A. To get the cover on. Not even sure I could get a thicker neoprene one on there.
I got a vinyl cover with my SB winch and it was too tight fit in the AEV so I cut a notch out of the back of the cover so I can fit it over. I provides enough coverage and keeps the sun off.
