It comes with a cut out. In fact it's designed to work with the Volant CIA/snorkel.

I'm sure the vents help w/the flutter too, but I was referring to heavier gauge steel (thicker metal) not heavier as in weight.

As far as the front and rear bumper combo, I am pretty much sold on Rugged Ridge; one for their pricing on Extreme Terrain vs Quadratec. Big price difference there, and they offer military 6% discount. I bought my first Jeep from Faricy. Great sales team at the time, but service department lacked big time. Perkins is by far the best dealership I have ever been to.
You can buy the RK Hood in fiberglass and have it painted to match, or have the scoop left in carbon and paint the rest..

I just have to say, I hate orange...but ive seen plenty of pictures of your Jeep and I drool every time. Very nice looking Jeep!

I too was looking at geting an AEV hood eventually, but decided Id just get the inserts instead. Cuttin a big hole in a perfectly good hood just sounds like way too much fun!

Well, that's good news, because that was a big reason I wasn't going to buy one.

AEV builds exellent products right here in Michigan. I will be picking up a hood this spring just because they look so kick ass. I have their 2.5 " Lift with geometry correction brackets, Pintler wheels in Argent color and rear tire carrier. Great products and a great company. I will support this local shop as I live only 30 miles from their Wixom facility. AEV hood is heavier gage steel and is supposed to eliminate flutter according to their website. I believe you can order the Mopar power buldge hood which is an AEV hood without the vents if you like that look,

What about the rain?

I'm in the market for a new JK, and saw one on the lot with the AEV hood. The vents allow rain to fall directly into the engine compartment - this seems like a bad idea! Especially here in Portland!

It lets in less water then you think. The front vent is over the empty space between the radiator and the engine and the side vents don't seem to allow much water in at all. The holes are small enough that the water beads roll right off of it. Hardly see any water get through even when using power washer at the car wash.

I too live in oregon, I do like it and want one, water into engine bay seem like problem in long term. I also noticed dealer where I get oil change have the hood on one of the jeep but didn't have opening holes. But it does collect the water

Do the pentastars run so hot a heat reduction hood is really warranted? It gets over 100 degrees here in Oregon in the summer sometimes, so I'd be concerned if they have a heat issue...

Hood installed!!

Got my new hood painted and installed.

I tried to order through Quadratec, but their system still only reflected the old model (with only one washer nozzle). When I did an online chat with them, the nice guy told me to call and place the order, then tell them to order the new model. So I took his advice, but the guy who took my call kept telling me that they only carried the old model, and wasn't at all cooperative. So, I ordered directly through AEV. Did cost $130 to ship from Wixom, MI to a NW suburb of Chicago. Showed up in 2 days.

The body shop did an excellent job of matching my Gecko paint.

Looks good! Very happy with mine as well, although I'm slightly bitter they came out with the 2 nozzle version about a week after I got mine put on.

How tough was it to install? Did you move the sound insulation?

No. I believe the AEV Heat Reduction Hood was designed as the replacement hood when AEV would swap the 3.8 L engines for Hemi engines.

I didn't do the installation, but the instructions said under an hour. I would have taken a crack at it, but would have needed someone (other than the mrs) to help with lifting it into place. There is no sound insulation used with this new hood.

I haven't noticed any issues w/water in my engine compartment. The hood definitely lets heat out, you can see it when stopped. IMO the heat reduction is as good for the 3.6 as any engine, because modern engines run hot thanks to emissions(IMO hot is over ~195 deg).

The hood went on WAY easier than I imagined. Took the wife and me less then an hour. It arrived pre-painted and except for a few small scuffs Im sure I can get off with a little effort, I'm very pleased with what arrived; looks awesome!

Can you describe the scuffs?

What are you guys doing with the OEM hoods after installing an aftermarket? If you are selling them, it would be nice to know what you are getting so I can figure that into the bottom line for the conversion.

Ill let you know soon. I kept the box and packing material from the AEV hood to pack the old hood in when it goes to eBay. Ill probably throw it on for a couple hundred and see what it does.

I tried Craigslist for mine; Put it out there for $200. Only 1 moderately serious bite, but the guy wanted it for under $100. Said that you could buy new hoods on eBay for way less (plus free shipping). I tried to explain that the one he was referencing was NOT an OEM hood, so you really couldn't compare apples to apples. Not even sure about how they could do that free shipping. Mine cost $90 to ship from the Detroit area to the Chicago area. So, currently mine sits, mounted way up on my garage wall resting on a few padded J hooks.

The instructions call for the hood to be test fit so the hinges can be tightened down, then tremoved and painted with the hinges already on. If you order the hood per-painted, how does that work out when you install it? The factory hinges are painted on the factory hood, I assume there is damage when they are unbolted and lifted.

Mine was not pre-painted. There a few blemishes that needed minor body work before it was ready for paint. When it was, it was with the hinges off. There was no apparent paint damage to the bolts nor hinges because of the take off/put on process.

I would get a 10th anniversary rubicon hood, stock primed. Then I would line it with a truck bed liner and put in the hood vents. The same treatment to the grille.

My next project.....

The AEV hood is nice but painted from Quadratec is a bucket of dollar$. The stock rubi X hood is just $600 from the dealer.

I assume the Rubi X hood is unpainted at the dealer. However, is the venting as good as the AEV hood?
