AEV hoods damaged from factory

So my AEV hood has damaged in a hail storm in downtown Denver CO.(traveled 1700 miles to catch a hail storm). After going though 2 collision centers that wanted to fix 164 hits in the hood I was able to convince the insurance company to pay for a new one.
Ordered it though Quadratec and it came via a truck line, box was damaged and some scratches on the surface of the hood. I noted the damage and signed for the hood. Took hood to my painter and he could see no major damage. A few days later he called to say that the hood was damage at the supports. Called Quadratec and they sent a replacement on the same truck line. Took # 2 to the painter and with a quick look he said it was damaged in the same place. Again I contacted Quadratec and he said that he would personally go look at # 3 hood before shipping it via FedX. By now you can guess that # 3 had the same damage.
Here I sit with no hood waiting for Quadratec to talk to AEV, will update the final outcome.

I'll add my 2 cents.. the only issue I've had to deal with AEV customer service was for a far LESS expensive component and their first "fix" package to me was the wrong part. The 2nd part was correct. They picked up the shipping and in the end made my order whole. I think it took about 2 weeks in all because I wasn't in a huge hurry to open the boxes on the original order and the following 2.

Hope to hear you get a good hood soon.

Ordered 5 AEV wheels from Quadratec recently. They each came in their own box. Four were new, but one was clearly not. The box was beat up, had a place where a prior shipping label had been ripped off, and the wheel was not packed cleanly inside. The wheel also had marks and scratches indicating a tire had been mounted on it and the wheel mounted to a jeep (scratches in lug nut area). Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed.

I sent Rick a PM here and he solved it on a Sunday. He rushed out a new replacement via FedEx immediately without requiring me to ship the used one back first.

Bad stuff happens. What matters to me is the customer service after the fact...and Rick knocks it out of the park. That's a big reason I order many parts from them, instead of some other place that has them for a couple bucks less.

Good luck. Hope it works out for you. Sounds like the packing material could be better and the shipper isn't very careful.

Update: Received hood # 4 from Quadratec and you won't believe this but this time they sent an old style single washer nozzle model that AEV hasn't made in years. After checking their stock, the old ones are all they had left.
Finally got AEV involved and hood # 5 is coming direct from AEV. I would say this one has got to be right but that's what i said about hoods 2 thru 4 and I am a little gun shy now.

Update10/11/2016 After Hood # 5 held up in shipment due to Hurricane Matthew it arrived today and this one had a dent on the passenger corner, refused shipment. Will this ever end. AEV wanted me to get my money back and buy one from a local dealer(that would have cost me an extra $70 in local sales tax. Quadratec has offered to get 2 hoods from another warehouse inspect both and ship one of them to me. I choose Quadratec.

Update 10/19/16 Dan @ Quadratec has worked hard to find a good AEV hood and it looks like I have one on the way. All of Quadratec customer service personal have done all that they can do to make this crazy problem go away. Hope # 6 is the one.

Crazy. So did hood #5 get damaged in shipment?

I bet they are getting dropped by the shippers and that must be a weak point.
That absolutely sucks to go through that. The fact that Q-tec has taken care of you doesn't surprise me. They are an awesome vendor who I'm lucky enough to live close to. I also had an issue with an AEV item and they went out of their way to take care of me.
I have a AEV hood and love it. I know you will also once it gets to you undamaged. Good luck!

Wow. Makes me feel better with my current issue. I just got a new front bumper from Shrockworks which has a whole bunch of blemishes in the powder coat and cuts and nicks in it. That front bumper got ordered on July 10th and took three months and 9 days to get here.

Last month it took Vortex and Headlight Revolution three attempts over 60 days to get a functional headlight. The first shot had a halo with three LEDs out. The second attempt of three resulted in them shipping me what appeared to be a pre-production version 0.5 model that had the high beam projecting below the low beam.

I try to buy from US manufacturers but the quality of products isn't in line with the cost of the products. Paying more and getting less is a fine way to lose market share.

This seems like poor packaging issues. I've been in the shipping business for 23 years with several different companies. If a product isn't packaged properly, it will almost always get damaged by one of the many people who will handle it over its shipment.

I agree, how many times have you gotten a part that half of it was missing, just due to packaging? I ordered a set of fenders one time and made the mistake of taking the old ones off before getting the half missing shipment and replacement fenders back-ordered. Six weeks without fenders.

Good news for me ... ShrockWorks is paying a local powdercoat company of my choice to refinish my front bumper. Now that's customer service.

Hope you have luck with the next hood #6 ... just curious ... is it the same shipping company each time?

I got a new hood from Quadratec of the same hail storm probably up here in Cheyenne. I went with a 10a hood. The passenger side front corner is creased abit. Called them up and it looks like I got the last one in creation until the Mopar supplier could make more. Looks like the same box that mine was shipped in. The box wasn't damaged either.

Sounds like that $70 extra would have been well worth it at this point.

Maybe but it is the same delivery system and I feel I should be able to order online and expect the product I am buying to be delivered as agreed upon.
It will all work out in the end,(it always does) just using the forum to vent and let fellow Jeepers be aware of this issue.

I think most body panels come that way a good body shop will make it look like new.

have you contacted AEV directly and ask them about it? Go to the aev forum, the owner of AEV Dave Herriton posts all the time and let him address it.

1st picture with the pen is how mine was pretty much when I installed it after paint on both sides... that you can easily fix by just pulling out that side by hand. Since I already had mine painted I just "messaged" it back into place. So not terribly noticeable now. The other stuff is not at all impactful to painting. They will just use a little poly filler to fix, not a big issue.

OK , I give up, after taking Hood # 6 to my painter and he bringing up all the flaws in this dented, creased, folded and flaws sprayed over with grey primmer paint hood, I am done with Quadratec and AEV for now. It seems that all they were interested in was blaming each other for the problem. Quadratec swears that they broke the seal and staples to open this box and I believe that but any idiot could see this was not a factory fresh hood. I suspect that AEV is dumping all of their questionable stock on dealers that have to purchase large amounts to receive a good discount.
For my fellow Jeepers please dry fit this hood before buying, painting and be clear with the seller you will except nothing less than a perfect hood ready for paint. All in all I blame AEV for a poor packaging and the yellow inspection stickler guy must be related to the owner. You would think with an item they are so proud of that they would use the wrap in plastic bags and pour foam method.
For now my friend that bought my stock hood in the spring and has not used it yet, will lend that one to me.
Thanks everyone for letting me vent, hope I helped someone out there.

I am certainly no expert in this, but from my years of experience as simply an occasional customer, it my understanding that even factory body parts rarely show up at a Body Shop in perfect, pristine, contention. The Body Shop needs to some minor repairs and fixes on that body part (of course, far less than the severely damaged part its replacing).

Based on that, I am not sure that one should expect a body part, like a hood, to show up without a even a tiny dent. Handling those imperfections, could be simply part of the standard prep job.

Yes, I realize that as common-place customers, we expect anything/everything to show up at our doorstep in perfect shape. I just have to wonder if this is an unrealistic expectation for body parts.
