AFE dry filter...WTF?

OK, I give up. How do you get the AFE pro dry filter in the air filter housing? Seems to fit in there good but I can't seem to get the clips closed. Put the stock filter back in and the clips snap closed easily.

Are you serious? Does it actually fit in there? Why don't they make it to fit in their easier?

Been thinking of ordering one, read another review where he said the clips were almost impossible to snap shut. My last WIX filter was pretty tight too, and one of the clips undid itself a couple days later.

I have one

Yep, they are hard to snap in with the clips. I had to use a long screw driver to hold it up while using the other hand to try to push the clip in. It's a bear. Most of the clips are easy but the hardest one for me was the one closest to the grill on the right side. I found out it doesn't have to clip all the way on top, it will push in the hole. I found out this too late after my hands were bruised and bloody.

Seems like a bad design. The one for the FJ Cruiser I used to have fit right in just like the factory one. Maybe I should just send it back.

Aem

AEM makes a dry filter as well (washable/lifetime). Don't know if it fits any better. Once I figured out how to clip that last clip that I talked about, I don't have problems. The 3 other clips are easy.

I put the AFE dry filter in mine last week. Remove the 2 10mm bolts that clamp the hose to the fan shroud then unclip the 4 air box clips. The bottom inboard clip is a PIA but other than that a piece of cake.

About a month ago, I put the AFE Power PRO DRY S Air Intake System; Jeep Wrangler JK 12-13 V6-3.6L, Momentum GT on mine. I also put the AFE throttle body spacer on. Both were very simple to put on.

The clips weren't hard to get snapped closed?

The bottom inboard clip was a bitch, skinned up the back of my hand but got it on there. The others were no problem.

How do you like the intake? Have you had any improvement with power and mileage?

I ended up taking the intake box off. Sorta held it with my knees while snapping all the clips together. Really wish I would of tried it in the first 15 minutes lol

I use an AFE intake. Im not sure about mpg improvements, perhaps 1mpg. The sound when on the throttle is worth million bucks!

My wife uses the AFE full intake with dry filter. It sounds great. However, as I've said many times in regards to aftermarket intakes, her IAT sensor mounting area allowed a HUGE air leak into the engine. I had to RTV the sensor in place.

So I recommend: RTV sensor in place, buy $20 replacement IAT sensor, use replacement IAT sensor on OEM intake when making trips to the dealer.
