AFE muffler added to afe intake....lag??????

Well just got the afe muffler and added it to my jeep that also has the afe intake.

Now it seems when I roll into the gas it has a lag before it goes.
And it dosnt feel as strong as when I had the intake and stock muffler.

It also feels like the rpm's dont spin up as fast.

Does the ecu need to relearn the added flow?
I just now took off the negative cable from the battery.

Any Ideas??

I have an idea, but you probably wouldn't want to hear it.

The factory probably spend a lot of man hours getting an exhaust and intake to work correctly. I find it hard to believe that a aftermarket company spent that amount of time getting it right. The computer controls precise fuel/air mixtures and tries to maintain that level. By just simply adding more air doesn't mean it will give you more performance and with the computer trying to compensate for an possible increase in flow may actually cause problems.

I would never waste money on CAI for new computer control vehicles. They are way over priced and make promises that just never come true. Without a computer update, then how can the engine be tuned for such a upgrade if you want to call it that.

I does take time, these modern ECU's do learn stuff. There is also the fact that a bigger exhaust can lose low end TQ, but gain some at higher RPM. I felt the same thing w/my WK, but it got better.

You can edit a post for 15 mins...just click on the edit button (next to Quote button you'd use to respond to someone else's post), change what you want, then hit save again.

After 15 you're SOL.

There are a few clips on youtube. I like mine, but I can tell you it doesn't sound like a V8.
