After Market Soft Tops ???

I ordered my jeep with the hard top only. In Northern Ca the summers are pretty dry so I had planned on just going topless, or nearly, all summer. It's garaged at nite.

I'm in the process, though, of changing my mind on that and would like to get an aftermarket soft top. There are those that claim not to need a frame and bows, etc. Any comment on them ? If that's not the best way to go, which soft top and bow set is best w/o going way into huge debt. Likely won't make the move until Spring but thought I'd like to gain some knowledge now as things could go on sale in Winter.

Not a direct answer, but have you looked at craigslist for an OEM soft top? Lots of people seem to get the dual top option and sell one. I just bought one yesterday in Orinda. New, all parts, $300 for a Four door. MUCH cheaper than a quality after market top.

Worth a try anyway.

No experience with bowless/frameless tops. My prior tops were all bowful/frameful.

The biggest thing to consider IMO is ease of use... Frameless look great, and have some distinct advantages over framed tops, but framed tops have advantages too. Like Rich mentioned, take offs are a big savings when you find them, and honestly, fall/winter is the time to shop for them. Spring they are harder to come by and more expensive due to demand.
Frameless tops are either on or off, or some have the Sunrider feature. If you choose to go topless then you either leave it at home, or try and stuff it in the trunk. Framed tops can be folded out of the way, but are with you as you travel, in case of unexpected weather. They are also a bit easier to manage due to the support from the frame.
