Aftermarket Sound System

I've done a search of the forum and I can't seem to find anything about sound systems....

So what do you have?

Seems like MOPAR and the dealer are pushing Kicker products... anyone with some advice?

Get a simple 100$ bazooka tube from Wal-mart and stick it in the back. It sounds great and if it gets stolen you are only out 100 bucks.

after my jeep build is completed I plan to stop by compusa (oops!)... BestBuy and get an inexpensive head unit. Something cheap and nothing flashy.

I would like it to play MP3 discs and have a front jack to plug in an mp3 player.

Then I'll get some nice in dash speakers and maybe a bass tube in the back that I can easily remove. Prefereably with a built in amp inside the bass tube so I don't have it out in the open to be stolen.

All I've got at the moment is the stock head unit with the factory in dash speakers. It works great at crawl speed but on the road you can't even notice if it is turned on or not.

I put my 2 12" RF's in a sealed box and measly 400 watt amp in the back. I didn't bother changing out any of the other speakers. Sounds perfectly fine to me.

I just spent about $250 at crutchfield. Planning on adding a bazooka tube sometime soon.

This is the one I am talking about I heard those NOS tubes sound like crap. Stick it behind the rear seat and you are golden.

I didn't like the look of it either but It was cheap and I could mount it somewhere I could cover up lol... I definitly like the black one better... The problems that I see with mounting it are that 1. There is already limited trunk space to begin with 2. Would mounting it directly behind the rear seat be awkward for iff I do remove the rear seats to move stuff?

All of your help and advice is greatly appreciated... Keep it coming...

I've never used one of those bass tubes before, so I have no idea how they sound. I can tell you this much, if you have the top and the doors off, you won't be able to hear it unless you have it directly behind you or firing into something.

My 12's are facing the rear seat with about a 2" gap, the sound gets lost the faster I go, I don't do more than 45 though, so I don't notice it at all.

turn the box around. i used to always have my subs facing forward too untill i read some where the sound actually gets bounced off the tailgate and distributes to the rest of the car better. just an idea it worked for me in my jeep. and i only have a crappy 10

Odhinn has that same tube in his rig and it sounds AMAZING going down the road with the top/doors off. I was going to put our 2x12 Inch Fosgates in the back of my jeep that are in our stang but I would be too worried about them being stolen. 100$ Sub + Lots of space + Great sound> 2x Fosgates + No space behind seat + Being out a ton of money.

I put a U bolt in the top of my box, ran a bicycle chain through it and padlocked it to the side of the Jeep, hasn't been touched yet.

I'm running an alpine pdx4.100 and installed hifonics components in all the stock speaker mount locations. using an LC7 with hi-level inputs to clean up the stock navi unit and it adds a 7 band EQ which converts to low-level RCA for the Alpine. I just left the 8" infinity sub in the back, it sucks compared to the 2 10" zeus's in my girls tc but the 6x9's put out enough bass as it is. All the stock speakers were easy to swap out but it did take a long time to run upgraded speaker wire through the roll bars and down underneath the seat. DIY total cost with all hardware and wiring $550 and 6 lone working hours.

So, the final verdict on the Kicker speakers is that they suck?

A couple of weeks ago, I replaced my Stock Speakers with Alpine SPR-17C Coaxial Speakers (RMS 100 Watts/Peak 300 Watts) and Alpine SPR-17S Component Speakers (includes Tweeters, 6.5" Speakers, and Crossovers) (RMS 110 Watts/Peak 330 Watts). The sound difference is amazing! Due to the Stock RES Radio not having the "JUICE" to boost the sound quality, and make the Speakers work to their full potential, I'll be adding an Amp within the next couple of weeks. Probably an Alpine or Nitro. I won't need a Sub-Woofer, as the Alpine's have PLENTY of Bass to satisfy my needs, and give me the "BOOM-BOOM-BOOM" when I need 'em!

Whatever you choose to go with, a Sound Upgrade most certainly doesn't hurt!

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

BB
