It requires a special adhesive. Normal windshield adhesive will not stick to the scratch resistant coating.

It does not have the black strip around the edges like all other windshields do. It says it doesn't need that because its to protect the normal glue from sunlight. It also says you can add it if you want to cover up the glue lines. It says its just spray on.

Good to hear. How thick is the panel. Did it come with the adhesive? Did it come with instructions or tips for the glass shop? I'm interested in how the glue lines come out looking. If normal glue won't stick how is paint going to stick?

If the windshield is floppy I wonder how well it will hold up to highway level winds and would this also cause optical distortion?

If it has enough elasticity would it work for the soft top side and rear windows?

It is a quarter inch think. It did not come with adhesive. Went to buy some, it was about $8. It did come with suggestions and recommendations. I'll put it on here when I get a chance. I'm working a double tomorrow so, ill shoot for Thursday.

It talks about the glue showing on this paper it came with.

Don't think its light enough for that. It's not that flimsy as a whole. It will hold well on highway. If not, y'all will be the first to know.

I don't think so. I have seen the poly in a NASCAR deflect at track speed but that's extreme. They do have center supports but also a much larger span.

I take it the correct adhesive is easily sourced locally? I live in AK so I hope it's common. I hope you can snap done pics when done. At this point you have answered many questions and I thank you for that. My only real concern other than scratching is the glue showing. If it has to be painted then the paint has to not only stick to the panel but also hold glue and keep from separating. Can't wait to see the results.

It's raining today, so I'll be testing out the wipers immediately.

Aggh, the suspense is killing me. Last night going home from work I got a big chip on my windshield. I was interested before, now I'm really interested.

Thank you for all the updates.

What about your wipers ?

Maybe a set of those teflon wiper blades may help keep the scratches down. Texas ???? Lots of blowing sand where you are ?? "BH"

UPDATE:

Ok, they're working on it now. They had to take a grinder to the edges of the windshield to make it a tiny bit smaller.

It's suggested in the instructions to put 4 screws in it, and because the windshield is mostly flat, they decided they would to help the adhesive dry in place. (it does easily flex into the bend it should have)

Another thing to consider is that the protective coating won't allow most adhesive to stick. So, the instructions suggest to put the rear view mirror on the frame. I'm going to try to use the same adhesive and see how that works.

They're also going to use a universal rubber edge around it to try to clean up the edges.

I probably should have taken a picture of the windshield as it came, but I didn't think about it. It came with a peel off wax paper on both sides.

Updates to follow.

I've had my jeep since 08/11 and already have a nice chip in my second windshield. However, in South Carolina I was able to get the windshield replaced for free by my insurance company. The replaced it with a factor mopar windshield with the Jeep grill emblem, etc. The state insurance law requires no co-pay on windshields as they do not want $$$ standing between people and safety.

This polycarb windshiled is interesting but I'll take a free facory windshield every time. So I guess I'm just saying check with your insurance agent before spending...

Pretty cool! What do you think of it so far? As clear as regular glass? Any complaints?

Yeah, I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, my insurance requires deductible.

Well, I like it so far, but I've only driven about 15 miles. I'll have to make evaluations over the next few weeks. Only complaint I have now was the pain-in-the-ass factor because no one has done this before over here and I had to buy the adhesive and bring it to him, then, I have to stick the mirror on myself.

Also, this windshield doesn't have the black lining on it, so the adhesive shows. It does come with instructions on how, and with what, to paint it with.

Yes, just as clear as regular glass.
