air bag sensitivity?

I hit a pot hole yesterday rather hard and it got me to wondering how sensitive the air bags are? Could they deploy on a crazy trail? If so, could a kill switch be put in?

This might help...

Inflation happens when there is a collision force equal to running into a brick wall at 10 to 15 miles per hour (16 to 24 km per hour).
As well as this...

I've had pretty bonejarring crunches (replaced my transmission crossmember with a heavy duty one because it was all pretzeled up) w/o the air bags deploying.

I've seen it described this way - anytime the air bags deploy it is because the frame experienced enough force that it's just like you were in an accident. In other words - if you drive right into a boulder hard enough to deploy the airbags - they should have!
