air coming "OUT" the air intake

Upon shutting off my engine, hot or cold, it sounds like air is being forced out of the top end of the engine through the air intake system. As well as, if you listen carefully, from under the manifold too. Of coarse this happened on a friday after the dealership closed. Any thoughts as to what it may be?

You may be driving it to hard. Your jeep is letting out a sigh of relief to be still.

Probably just crank case pressure being released, is it a quick swoosh of air or is it a longer and slower release?

Maybe this. Maybe not.

Relax. Your ear is most likely paranoid. Take the top and doors off and you'll hear all sorts of things, but paramount should be enjoyment.

Easy way to tell if you are not venting crank case pressure is to pull the dipstick right after you kill the motor and see if it blows air out of it.

When you say air intake system do you mean the stock air tube or an air charger system? If it is an cold air intake than this is a common phenomenon. I have had all three of my vehicles do this. Mostly because I upgraded piece by piece w/ usually intake first, than throttle bodies than exhaust. After the throttle body replacement I did not have it anymore.

I've only known that to happen after a long day on the trail.
