Air Conditoner not blowing on "Face" upon starting the Jeep

I cannot seem to locate an answer to this question, and I am not satisfied with the answer I got from the dealership yesterday for the situation.

RE: 2011 JK Sport 2dr

Situation: If you have the A/C on "face" and turn the vehicle off, while leaving the A/C set to kick on upon next start-up - the A/C has about a 90-120 second delay in kicking on at the face level. When you start the Jeep, it automatically kicks on the feet (which it's not set for), and then after you start driving, it decides to "flip" itself to the face. What a PITA.

So - I thought maybe something was wrong with the compressor or the lines, but the dealership said "It's normal for a Jeep. We even tested it on another Jeep and it does the same thing".

That's all fine and dandy, but as I told the dealership, MY (2013) JK does NOT do this. If I start mine, with the A/C set on face, it starts ON FACE immediately.

Does anyone else have this issue? The '11 is just about out of manufacture warranty (3K miles left), so if I'm just getting the run around from the dealership, I need to get it back in there ASAP.

**Side Note: Yes, the A/C does work and blow cold, so I'm unsure what could cause this issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sounds like it isn't an issue to me if all Jeeps of that year do it and yours has always done it. Personally i wouldn't waste any more of my brain power on figuring out a non issue.

I mean seriously, is 90-120 seconds is the end of the world?

My 2013 acts like your 2011. It never bothered me enough to actually care though.

2012 jku - Mine has about a 30 sec delay at start up. Also, when running it on high, some times it just cuts off for about 15 secs then starts back up... Have no idea why it does it so I guess I am not much help...

My 12, does this a a lot of newer cars will. Basically the blend doors won't allow the hot air to blow out the upper vents until the evaporator reaches a temp that that will cool the incoming air. It is perfectly normal though some cars do it and some don't. Does your 10 have an auto temp setting and 13 not? Typically ac with an auto temp feature will do this more as it has more control over the blend doors.

Mine is also a 2011 sport 2 door. It does the same thing. It is normal from what I have read and heard.

Phew. Ok - this makes me feel better about it. I've only had the '11 for two weeks, and the '13 for two months.... so I'm not really used to either car yet. I just didn't want it to be something worse in a few thousand miles when the warranty runs out. Thanks, All!

Mine does the same, which is good. I rather have cold air blowing than hot air to the face instantaneously. Especially in Miami.

My 13 does the same thing. Picked up this weekend and I would say 10-15 second delay on start up

Our 13 does this as well, but I hadn't really noticed it until the last couple of days. Today it was SO hot I actually thought twice about it, and voila! Here is my answer!

Air conditioning is a request you make to your Jeep. The Jeep will think about it for a bit. If you have been appropriately thankful you have a Jeep, your request will be granted.

My 2011 does the same thing. Seems like the faster you turn the air on after cranking the longer it takes to blow out the vents

My 2013 does it, but only for about 3 seconds. Not worth stressing about for me.

Who has worked on the actual dampers in the air handler? We've got the dash completely out but are stuck on the air handler where that main dash/floor damper is. There is a plastic knob that is rotated pneumatically to divert the air and this knob has broken on our '97 Wrangler.

Do you have automatic or manual AC?
Mine seems to do that in the automatic mode.

My 13 JKU does this as well - blows at the feet for about 10 seconds more or less then switches to face.

My 2012 does this too. I would say about 15-30 seconds delay. Doesn't bother me.

The actual correct answer here is that most new vehicles have a delay right after you start them up with the ac on. This being because leaving your ac on when you turn the car off and thenback on layer and the ac cutting on immediately supposedly cuts down the life of the actual ac, so the jeep has a delay to prevent it from causing excess wear and tear.

From a service advisor and per Chrysler when we called.

If you keep calling them cars the ac will not work at all

Its a feature, and a welcome one. Im amazed more manufacturers don't do this. It stops the nasty hot air from blasting you in the face, and opens the vents only when the air is already cold.

My 2012 does the same thing and as someone pointed out earlier, it's most likely so that you don't get blasted in the face with warm air on a hot day. It automatically switches the gates when you shut off the ignition, and then reopens the face vents once the hot air trapped in the vent tubes has dissipated.

seeing as the OP lives in texas, this is probably a true statement!

nothing worse than turning on your AC and getting a blast of 110 degree air....

When the top is left down the AC comes on as soon as you start moving. If the doors are off then the AC is always on.
