Not a bad idea too. Maybe dig up a few old threads too. Just good cautionary tales

Update:

First of all you guys are cracking me up, thanks

Typical of the dealer but they said they got the Jeep in the shop late and will give me a low down tomorrow morning.

And I very much agree that this very well should be something everyone newbie should see. In case they want to take a dip.

If you can help me out it would be much appreciated than stressing with the dealer.
I'm really late finding this thread, and for that I apologize.. However I did read it from the first page to the post right above me and am fully aware of the situation and all suggestions.

That having been said, there is something that no one else mentioned, at least not directly...

YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG! DON'T DO IT THAT WAY ANYMORE!

But seriously, I know you already know that. And I really do feel for you. Its a beautiful rig and a shame to it swamped like that. I hope the repairs don't price you out of the game.

However, there are a lot of threads on the internet that support the claims that hiphop will negatively impact your offroad performance, especially in deep water. In fact this is covered in the owners manual

Thanks for the regular updates. Don't forget to let us know what the dealer says.

Rename thread: Oscar Mike on the Hunt for Red October.

Sorry about your jeep. Even after you get it all dried and cleaned up, it might be a good idea to put a damp-rid under each seat to help absorb residual moisture and manage reemerging smells.

I was going to suggest that, since it was soaked already, take it to a swimming pool and dip it in for a few hours at the same depth so the chlorinated water kills off most of the eventual stink. Just a thought.

I was just thinking the same thing.
One time about 25 years ago at the Sturgis Bike rally, there was a guy we knew rode his bike into a small canal--- he is still called "Captain Nemo"!!!

*crrr* Update from Cpt Nemo, over *crrr*

So, the shifter and airbag module are fryed and they're charging a grand.

Idk if I'm getting over charged but I'm sure I am.

At this point I just want to get back in the seat.

Don't fix the airbags, you need life vests at sea, mate.

You should ask them to fit a folding mast to the roll cage, the next time you do it you can just hoist your windows and sail out.

That's much better than it could have been! You could have deep sixed her and you would have been in way more trouble. I see some breather extensions and maybe a snorkel in your future

Or you'll go the whole other way and avoid mud/water like the plague like me and many others and just stick to rocks, wooded trails, and dirt with a tiny bit of shallow mud here and there

I think at a $1000 you got very lucky, could have easily been 2X's that maybe more.

The shifter on the transfer case usually goes bad when one of the pivot points snaps. There is a 60 cent part that has to be replaced. It is a nylon bushing. They usually take care of that under warranty. It snaps when you apply too much pressure to the shifter and given your situation, your adrenalin was probably pumping and you just applied too much pressure to it. I keep 3 of those bushings in my glove box. There are two of them in the linkage. One inside the center console above the floor board (I haven't actually seen this one) and one under the jeep on the side of the transfer case (this one I have replaced).

Most of the repair cost looks to be the air bag. Those ain't cheap.

^^ this!

glad to hear you're not coming out of pocket too much. this seams reasonable given the circumstances. i'd avoid water for a while. remember... if you're unsure, get out and check it. it's better to be in a jeep soaking wet after checking a hole... instead of sinking your rig.
