Almost halfway submerged in water. Running into a few problems. Help meh

<---- how i feel btw.

So I'm a complete newb at off roading, blah blah this is what I did to my Jeep on mothers day.

So, I've ripped out the carpets and cleaned them, same goes for the cushions.

Threw in a dehumidifier over the past two nights and now the tops off; drying in the hell Florida heat.

What I hope someone can help me with is before I tow it to the dealer, is that when key is turned on, all the lights on the dash pop as normal but the warning light "Vehicle Not in Park" shines up even though

1.Vehicle IS in park
2.It's locked into park unless I wiggle it around HARD or loosen the weight by moving the car back and forth.
3.When I can get it out of park, I am able to move freely through PRND but am doomed again when I put into park.
4. When in D, it starts in 3rd gear and does NOT shift. 3.5krmps @45mph FTL

She did sit in the water for 2 hours before a pull out with the engine running the whole time.

If you can help me out it would be much appreciated than stressing with the dealer.

Sounds like you may need to empty and refill the transmission to begin with. Im sure there will be other things that will need done as well.

x2 If it was that deep then you probly got water in the tranny through the vent tube. Drop pan and replace fluid and filter

Going to try right now, everyone above ^^ That's what i have read about so far. How are these Jeeps in the aspect of electronics being resistant to water damage?

Yup try changing the fluids first and hose it off extremely well. Maybe the fluids will fix it.

Chances are they won't honor a warranty for this if they can find proof of offroad damage. If you don't change the fluids and they see dirt, water and mud in there it's almost an instant rejection

These are what I have on my phone ATM, my brother has some other "cool" ones. The triple A guys came and proceeded to take photos and said they couldn't get their truck to where I'm at and left me stranded on top of my Jeep. Bastards.

Tried uploading the same images, if not showing again please let me know how I can fix it.*

Running for 2 hours just sitting there?? Geez

At some point you have to decide to just get dirty and jump in the water. Did you have a winch or Hi-Lift (come along) jack?

No more resistant than others i suppose. Ive not submerged my electronics...per say, but I have read others who have just let it dry itself out and things seem to work alright. Of course with electronics Im sure this is a case by case basis

I've only seen it that deep on a TJ... it survived unscathed... I'd do all my fluids though, Front and rear diffs, tranny, Engine oil too (no ones mentioned that one yet) and try and bake it dry...

These JK's are about as resilient as a minivan. So tell me, would you drive a minivan into water that deep? No.

I'm just sayin... $35k is a lot of money to just toss into the water.

Pull the front of the console off so the area around the gear shifter can dry out. There are electronics there too.

I would pull everything and clean it to like new. When I say clean to like new, I mean crawl underneath and scrub everything. Do same for the inside. Get that front console completely out and scrub it to like new.

Change fluids and hopefully that fixes it. I would even go as far as changing fluids again after running for a bit on tranny. On diffs, pull covers off and completely drain, maybe even clean with brake cleaner (diffs only). Then after all that if you have problems there should hopefully be no signs of water damage and dealer will warranty out tranny. Not sure if there is a tranny filter, but replace that too if there is.

Assume they will have to pull everything out that was wet (ie center console) so leave no signs of water.

I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect to see if it resets the parking issue. Change all the fluids ASAP like previous posters have replied. You are a braver man than I! I climb mountains, but never played submarine!!! lol

I was stuck in a washout in a ravine on a published road in NH. Called the Chrysler Care towing. The flatbed operator parked at the top of the ravine, walked about 3/4 mile down to where the jeep was and he told me to get one of my jeep buddies to tow me out to the top where the paved road was and then he would come back and get me. I did just that and called him back. He said he would be there but never showed up. I got pissed and went under the jeep and figured out a way to temporarily hook up the broken linkage on the transfer case and get it out of neutral and then drove it to the dealer. Now I carry three of the 60 cent parts as spares in case it breaks again. If you break down in the boonies, I'm convinced that most tow truck drivers will laugh at you and this story just reinforces that.

I don't know if this story will qualify as another Chadwick because the OP I think said that the engine still runs. Just the transmission is in trouble thus far...am I right?

Almost the same amount but the port side front fender was deeper in.

And IDK if you intended port and starboard as a joke apposed to driver and passenger but i thought it was humorous

Why would you not? Would it not keep water out of his muffler, catalitic converter and possibly up into the manifolds? He is at periscope depth.
As long as the air intake box is above high tide, and certainly no danger of engine overheating.
Just wondering.
You got a heck of a mess there DirtyTeddy. Hope you everythings back to shipshape soon. (sorry had to go there)
