Am I crazy for wanting to order a Rubicon X in South FL?

I already posted this in the Florida Region Threads:

I am at the early stages of getting ready to buy my first Wrangler Unlimited and noticed that we have very few choices in South FL. EVERYONE seems to carry Sports, but I was looking for a Sahara or Rubicon with specific features (black with black leather for one). Does anyone have any good or bad expreiences with any dealers in the South Florida region (preferably North Broward)?

I know most dealers won't budge much on pricing, but I figured I'd ask.

Also, has anyone had any good or bad experiences in ORDERING a Jeep in this area? I have to admit that the Rubicon X has caught my eye and I feel that locating one in this area is NOT going to be easy.

Whatever you do stay away from Autonation on Pines and I-75. They have no idea what a Jeep is.

Buy what you want, don't settle for anything else.
Fields Auto group has several dealerships in FL. Check with them, they offer under invoice pricing for members. Once you find one, I'm sure they can ship it to one of their dealers closer to you for pick up.

Mike ordered his 2013 JKU last September. He emailed all the dealers in Florida and originally got the best price from a dealer (a big one that uses a certain football player in their ads) in Delray Beach. But when it came time to put down a deposit and he asked for a build sheet with all the options detailed, what they sent was not the jeep they had been discussing. He went back and forth with the salesman, then went over his head to the GM and the GM basically told him to pound sand...

He had a quote from Fields in Sanford, Florida for 2% under invoice (their standard no hassle price with TreadLightly) and was going to go there. Then he got an email from Massey. Yardley on 441, just south of Sunrise Boulevard. They were willing to come within $500 of Fields' price, so he wound up ordering there. Couldn't justify driving from Lake Worth to Sanford for $500 when you factor in time. Gas, wear and tear, etc..

The lady's name there was Tamisha Hope. She wasn't very knowledgeable about jeeps, but she was good at following through on what he wanted. We paid a $500 deposit and picked the jeep up November 6th. Least stressful vehicle purchase we'd had up to that point.

Donmeca, another user here can tell you his experiences with dealers more recently in the tri-county area. He got fed up with them and wound up ordering from Fields. No one else would play ball. Except for his jeep taking forever to be built, I think he's been very happy with their service.

I know there are many others here that have also purchased from them. I think I3rian just ordered a new AMP'd from them yesterday...

Good luck to you, wherever you wind up ordering!

I can't help you with dealers except to mention that you should check into whether you qualify for the Affiliates program. This is beneficial to you and the dealer as it provides them an additional 2% of MSRP if they sell you a Jeep with those terms (charge you no more than 1% under invoice). That pretty much takes care of the pain of negotiating unless you enjoy it and want to press for more ;-)

As far as the Rubi X package goes, it's pretty much just a luxury and appearance package so if you like what is in the package and can justify buying a base Rubicon to begin with, go for the X, especially if you would load up a Rubicon anyway. I found the X package was about $800 more than the Rubi I would have gone for anyway, plus it had some appearance items I liked better (hood, winch-ready bumpers, fuel filler door, Mopar rock rails, tail lamp guards, few red accents, etc.). It seemed worth the $800 extra to me.

It's 200 miles roughly for you, but Brian at Fieldsauto in Sanford Florida is a sister dealership for Pat a sponsor on these boards. Ordered mine through him and i live in Jacksonville 125 miles away. Great guy, price and no BS. You will also qualify for the forum discount and if you join tread-lightly or qualify for Chrysler affiliates rewards you can get your jeep for 2% below invoice.

Brian is the older guy, right? I think that is who I bought from a couple of months ago. He was great to deal with.

It's the ultimate Jeep, dude. If you want it, get it. You're not going to take it in the shorts because the resale is so good. The only question is whether you can handle the monthly payments. You obviously want it. If your budget allows it, pull the freaking trigger.

Another vote for Brian at Fields Auto in Orlando. I live in North Florida and ordered through him. It was really easy and no BS. They know what they are talking about when it comes to Jeeps. The only thing I wish I would have done differently is skipped talking to any of the dealers near me before I ordered from Brian. These local dealers were a complete waste of time. Go with Fields in Orlando.

I posted this I'm another thread:

Ok, so I've been doing some research and am tired of going in to dealerships and having to teach THEM what a Rubicon X is, how to remove the top, difference in stereo systems, etc.

I live in South Florida and am willing to drive 250 miles to get the right deal. Rubicons (let alone Xs) are far and few In this area. I pretty much have settled on a black Rubicon X with a few bell and whistle add ons and have been pre-approved for a 1.99% loan from my credit union. I have a 2006 Ford Expedition King Ranch with 81k that I will either trade, sell to Car Max, or try selling on my own (1st time).

Now what? Do I build it from jeep.com and start emailing all dealers in the lower 1/2 of Florida? If so, what is the best way to approach it? In other words, what should be my "demands"? I understand, of course, that there is more wiggle room when you are taking their inventory off of their lot. I have never tried buying a vehicle in the past through the internet--I just do not have the time to drag wife and kids to 5+ dealers on 5+ weekends and have to sit through the B.S. for something that is not the right color, model, etc. Moreover, is it better just going through a broker?

Jeep has been my dream-vehicle since a teen and I want to do this right. This forum has been extremely helpful and I look forward to and appreciate the responses!

GM probably told him to pound sand because they don't make the wrangler. They were probably completely confused as to why he was contacting them, in fact.

I went with Tom Holman at Fields Jeep in Sanford. Dealers in South FL all seemed terrible. Ordered a '14 Sahara JKU early Sept, picked it up 3 weeks ago. Super easy transaction over email and phone. Brought financing from my bank.

I am getting impatient with a local dealer who ordered 2 Xs on 9/11. As of nearly 3 weeks ago, one was assigned a VIN# and was supposed to be delivered by now. I originally looked was there a few days before Halloween and was going to order one then, but figured why wait an extra 8 weeks a when they ordered TWO on 9/11.....anyhoo, now the salesperson I was dealing with isn't replying to my inquiring emails, and I'm afraid if I call or go over his head I will either appear desperate and have no negotiation upper hand.

Still hoping this works out! If not, I was holding Fields in my back pocket. What are the CONS of buying from a dealer 4 hours away? I am afraid that by ordering so far away, I will run into issues if say I have a leak in the roof or similar situations. Unless it's a recall issue, is my local dealer 3 miles from my home able/wiling to handle warranty type issues?

Get it from the dealer in Orlando the drive is not that bad. Warranty is warranty you can get work done from any dealer it is not based on the dealer you bought it from.

Another plug for Brian W. at fields in Sanford. Shopped all around and found the best deal and customer service at fields. Ordered a 14 rubicon a few months ago and it came in while I was unexpectingly in the hospital...they sent me pics and videos to my phone for me....pretty cool.

Get the Rubicon if that's what you want. I also agree with dealing with Fields if at all possible.

if you are a member of some of the car buying services you can get certificates from certified dealers on the jeep you build. Most dealers will then contact you with what inventory that they have. Also have you gone to the jeep website and built the jeep you want and checked if it existed on a local lot? I love my Rubicon X and think that you would enjoy it. Most people really love the hood and the bumpers.

I brought(ordered) my Wrangler from one dealership and had my warranty service at a different dealership with no problems. It was when I started going to the dealership for service, where I brought my Wrangler, that I started having problems. Dealerships can definitely make you feel like you have a broken hang nail. Don't get Me started on them. Sheesh.

I wrote this in another thread:

Ok, I originally emailed Brian at Fields, but he had another sales agent contact me. I will say that he is not very attentive and his emails are either form letters full of blank spaces ("I am so glad you reached out to me regarding the . I will do my very best to make you happy in your new .") or FULL of typos and errors. Plus the work order sent back to me was full of things I didn't ask for. (I asked for the 730n package, the work order had the 430n on it). When I shot him an email back, he said he didn't include any radio--just the basic one (?!?). This is on a Rubicon X request.....(?)

Needless to say I am a bit apprehensive based on emails alone. I have cc'ed Brian on the emails, but he has not stepped in yet.
