Am I outta my mind? do people hate Jeeps?

Ok this is actually a serious thread -

I have been driving Superdutys for 10-12 years now, kids are off to College, and I bought a Jeep, something I have always wanted.

I know about "the wave". And the Blue Rubi gets more than a few looks from women (which is egg-cellent lol), it's owner? not so much but anyway

But here is something I never expected, and like I said, maybe it's just me.

In 10-12 years of driving those SD's I never got as much as a toot by people behind me. In the past three weeks driving the Rubi, it seems I get beeped at several times a week - and I mean obnoxious horn leaning behind me at a light the moment it changes, people up my butt, and "the look".

Is it my imagination? I mean after 27 years of driving commercially, if I were a crappy driver I'd know by now. The only difference is it's not a Mack, or an SD, it's a Jeep.

The final straw was some dipsh*t standing alongside his pickup last night, who glares at me as I pull in, and spits on the ground near my door. No one's expecting a 6'6 325# gorilla to slide on out, so I didn't have to say a word BUT ...

What the ?!? Does anyone else have a similiar experience?

they are just jealous that you are driving something better than what they have

^ for sure the case. or maby some people just dont like these new jks. they know nothing about them except that it has a minivan engine and that makes it a pos or something. i dont know ive never experienced anything like you decribe but if a guy spit at my jeep he wouldnt even know what i looked like as he was passed out on the ground.

There are those that really dislike the Hummer and let's face it....the JK looks more like a Hummer and less like a Wrangler. Never had the problem in the YJ.

Never had that around here . . . everybody seems to like the Jeep and I get all sorts of comments from people . . . all positive. Gotta ask . . . do you have an Obama sticker or something on there?

Call it a minivan engine if you like, I mean the I6 was stout, but the V produces more horsepower (190 vs 202) and torque (220 vs 237), get's better mileage, is as common as a bellybutton and if it blows up? I have a 10yr/100,000 mile warranty on it because let's face it, who want's to crawl under their daily driver anymore? (well, I DO but thats another matter)

I like the I6, but I have a V6 - oh well, things could be worse

I think to most people, it's just a Jeep

As for "The Dude" ... it was more of a "I'm not impressed, who's cooler than me" spit on the ground. I stand 6'6 and weigh over 325#'s, shave my head and sport a scowl and goatee - half the fun of people like this is simply exiting the vehicle

I dunna know - not that I care - I was just curious if anyone else noted social behaviors in the presence of a Jeep.

On a funny side, the owner of the local tavern relayed to me that a 20 something blonde from the local hair school approached him last week and stated "nice ride". He turned and motioned at his Mercedes SUV and she flinched. "No, I meant that blue Jeep with the winch and lights". He stated to her that the Mercedes was nice. And her response? "Yea but you can do some damage with that" pointing at the Rubi.

I laughed my butt off - I figure it's only a matter of time before he has his own parked out front (I'll tell him about the wave)

Well....my dad has a new JK and I must say I've had a few jerks say nasty things when I've driven her in Miami. No one says anything to him, but then he may be in his seventies but he's 6'5" and weighs in at about 275. Most jerks out there know nothing about Jeeps. Four door Jeeps are not new. The US Army has been using them to transport troops for years. They see a Jk and think hummer. I'd say just give them the biggest smile you can. In the long run it's just a poor fool that can't afford one. Welcome to the Jeep family!

Oh man ... how could I take anyone seriously who thought a Jeep looked even remotely like a Hummer?

Excuse me I think I have something under my front tire, can you take a look? yes that's it ... closer ... closer .... almost THERE ....

If we wait long enough sooner or later it'll come stock in a HEMI version.

I've gotten nothing but praise and admiration in the JK ---- but this is Georgia, after all. Where you can get beaten up for driving a Prius.
Seriously though, sometimes when I'm the 3rd or 4th vehicle to a 4-way stop, the other drivers stay put and wave me through. It's neat; coolest vehicle goes first thing.

I'm 6'5" and 280; we should start a normal-sized-Jeeper club or something...

I have also noticed my Rubicon gets more attention then my F-350 but people seem not to screw with the Super Duty as much. I think the size scares them.

Agreed!
I used to commute in my Chevy 2500 HD 4x4, 6" lift etc etc... I also left my load leveling hitch on all thru the winter. No one ever messed with me. No tailgaters, no one cut me off... Nothing.
Now with the jeep, I get people up my ass all the time on the way to and from work. I just turn up the sterio and sip my coffee knowing I can go places they'll never see.
then again, I'm not little, 6' 230# and if I could get ahold of some of thes fookers, I'd paint their hood blood red... but my jeep isn't a sports car.

When I first got mine, I was freaking about people riding my bumper, after a bit I came to understand that I had no trunk, and they weren't really any closer to me than they had been in my Impala. As for honks and rudeness, I haven't had that issue at all. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Are you being pokey on the freeway? Some people have the idea that Jeeps are slow, so they don't like to be behind them. I personally set the cruise on 80 and go about my business.

When people behind me honk when the light changes, I shut off the Jeep, get out and walk back to thier driver window. Then loudly in my best southern drawl "You all from Texas too?!? Howdy!!" turn and walk back to the Jeep. If the timrings right I get thru on a yellow

ha ha ha love the pictures ... I was thinking in a 2 door sense but wow the unlimited does look like ... I can't say it.

And no not pokey on the highway - I mix my way through the gears for about an hour as I get those six hamsters growling all the way to 75 and stay to the right where possible.

I've gotten nothing but nice comment so far concerning my Jeep. However, ppl love to ride my rear bumper. I'm not a slow driver, but I go the speed limit and accelerate normally. I burn too much fuel gunning that pedal all the time I'm getting to the point though I watch to add one of those rear stingers just to keep idiots off my bumper.
