Am I the only one....

Am I the only one who really loves the 7-spoke 18" wheels?

Surely I can't be the sole person that purposefully wanted these wheels? While I really love wheels and I am not a "chrome" person at all, these wheels IMO make my Jeep look amazing.

I know replacement 18" tires are more expensive down the road to replace, but I don't like the 5-spoke 17" as much as these. I searched for the 7-spokers when I was Jeep searching and there were not many around that had them.

Anybody else love these wheels as much as me?

Just you and maybe 3 other people. It doesn't matter what other people like, as long as you like them.

Yep, it's JUST YOU.

In fairness, it's not just the more expensive tires that make these 18" wheels a "bad" choice--other reasons are (1) they're chrome, so they tend to show trail damage easily, (2) like all stock wheels they have terribly high back spacing, which pulls tires in under the fender flares and makes it impossible to run wider tires without using wheel spacers or adjusting the steering stops, and (3) unless you head upwards of 35" tires, 18" wheels really remove too much of the sidewall for "optimum" offroading use.

So for the "offroader crowd" that naturally flocks to Wranglers, these wheels are simply not a good choice. That's why they get the heat that they do, along with the traditional Sahara wheels.

But does any of that mean you can't like them? No. Wranglers are meant to be customized, and if you love'em, then great. Congrats on your jeep.

I think Tom was being sarcastic. Pretty sure there are at least 5 others who like the stock 18's.

Maybe 6.

Make that six people. I personally hate the way they look but my brother in-law drove 4 hours to go buy some off a dude that just took him off his brand new Sahara. To each his own I guess.

Number 7!

They look nice on the Bright Silver.

When the time comes for new tires though, they are getting replaced.

Interesting side debate, but who really cares? Let's agree to change my post for accuracy to read as follows:

Quote:
In fairness, it's not just the more expensive tires that make these 18" wheels a "bad" choice--other reasons are (1) they're [EDIT: polished], so they tend to show trail damage easily, (2) like all stock wheels they have terribly high back spacing, which pulls tires in under the fender flares and makes it impossible to run wider tires without using wheel spacers or adjusting the steering stops, and (3) unless you head upwards of 35" tires, 18" wheels really remove too much of the sidewall for "optimum" offroading use.

Better? The same issues still apply and the ultimate point was just to let the OP know--if they didn't already--why the 18" wheels are disfavored. It's not arbitrary, and there is some logic to it.

That said, again, I say that if the OP is happy, then they should be happy. It's their jeep and they should be as happy with it as I am mine.

Just a small correction. There was not supposed to be a debate. There is no debate. Just fact. Carry on.

Truly though, I always did think they were just chromed. Not my style either way, but I did learn something here . . . .

How people can get caught up in such trivial non-issues is beyond me.

Why people feel the need to ask permission to like something is also mind boggling.

JUST DO WHAT YOU LIKE IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT WE THINK, SILLY!

Awesome. Me and the other 7 can get together sometime and have a wheel polishing party.

In all seriousness I figured the off-road crowd would chime in. I should have mentioned that for the first 3-5 years I don’t plan on doing serious off-roading. When that time comes I will certainly be looking at appropriate wheels and other stuff. Mostly some light trails planned.

And no polished aluminum is not the same as chrome. Appearance-wise they may resemble each other, but they are definitely not the same.

If you're talking about chrome vs. polished, it's not trivial. And no one is "caught up in it." This thread was about a certain type of wheel. The wheel in question is polished, not chromed.

If someone said that Sahara fenders were anodized aluminum, I hope someone who knows better would correct him so that misinformation is not passed around.

No one asked permission. The poster was wondering if anyone else shared his/her enthusiasm for these wheels. Isn't this whole forum supposed to be about sharing information and enthusiasm?

I LOVE my 5 spoke 18"s on my Sahara, but then I come from a time when the biggest wheel offered by the factory was 15" and no more than 6" wide. Steel only as well. AND, AND I had to walk 5 miles, up hill, both ways, to and from school, in 12" of snow!!!

Why are you on a forum if you don't care what other people think? Why are you in this thread if you don't care what other people think? Why should anyone care about your 700+ posts?

90% of the posts on this forum are: "Hey, check out my..." Hey, your Jeep looks..."

I move that we close it down.

I'm a fan.

I hope they're still available by the time I get around to ordering a Sahara.
