New Jeeper.

To me it's difficult to completely destroy the looks of a jeep. I personally like the black on black look, which is the look I am headed towards. But I have seen many color variations that look great! Problem is I cant have em all...

X1000, They are UGLY, but were first introduced to the auto Industry, back when the Model T first came out. So if they were popular back in the dark ages, well why not now?

I also will never buy 100% black wheels. I do like black wheels with a polished rim or some type of contrast. For those who just run black wheels, good for them. I'll do something different when I swap mine. Good thing about having a Jeep as you do your own thing and you really don't care who likes it or not.

I think the 'dipping wheels flat black' looks like garbage. But hey, it's theirs, not mine. If they don't like mine, no problem. Less people looking to steal my wheels. I don't like the factory wheels, look too plain. Most everyone around me is a soccer mom and have the same factory wheels... I want to do something different.

I'm leaning towards these gloss black/machined lip AR Fuel wheels:

I think they'll look great on my 13' Black JKU Sport S:

I personally like all wheels. Black, Chrome, polished, etc. I found something that I like for my personality.

I like the 17 in. Wheels that came on my '13 Sport. One thing is they are sooo easy to clean. Look good to me.

Black wheels are definitely the minority, so 99% of people likely agree with you. If you dislike nontraditional wheels, you should see some of the new colored wheels. I was at my tire shop today and picked up a "Dub" magazine. The new "in" thing seemed to be multi-color 80s style paint jobs on wheels. Really wild stuff with 3 colors like orange purple and green combined in one wheel.

^ I think you mean that most Wrangler owners prefer Black wheels... anyone running chrome/colored or polished wheels are the definite minority.

No multi-color wheels for me. Something the rappers would do. I'm a middle aged white guy

If you are referring to the "Rally" wheels, where the wheel was painted body color and it had trim rings (like my old Olds), those were pretty cool back in the day. Don't see many rally wheels anymore.

Uh, not sure where your stats are coming from, but MOST wrangler owners definitely DO NOT run black wheels. You must mean that alot of people on this forum run black wheels maybe? Or alot that go offroad maybe? This site is NOT a reflection of most wrangler owners. Go check wrangler sales numbers per month and then check to see how many users are on here. In my actual town, I have only seen a couple of jeeps with black wheels.

I see what you are saying. Most run the factory wheels, yes. I'm talking about those who UPGRADE their wheels for something else (as I took the thread topic to be)... and most of those run black. Many others who 'upgrade' the factory wheels also dip them black. Majority of upgraded wheels for the Wrangler are black.

Most Wrangler owners I see run the factory wheels, but I took this thread to be about "upgraded" wheels. I saw a guy with 20" black wheels on a JK, today. Not my thing.

I would say most people who do replace their rims do go with some sort of black rim. Easily the majority too.

I am located near AEV so I guess that is why I feel like I mostly see their silver and argent wheels now days. I think AEV and Rugged Ridge are the only hubcentric wheels for jks too? Really, that is what I was looking for and why I actually avoided aev, because that is all I see around here. I like the new savegres in the argent though. I just saw a set on a brute at a car show. There were about a dozen jeeps there and they all either had true bead locks or were running aev.

As a slight aside from the color question, how much care do you have to take that aftermarket wheels won't be fragile off road? Are there brands that are sure to be fine? What do you look for to figure that out? I vaguely recall hearing that some wheels that look nice and are fine on the street just fall apart once you get them off asphalt, and I'd hate to have that happen to me.

After reading most of this thread, I don't think I want black anymore. It just made me realize it's kinda overdone. The idea of wheels matching body color sounds pretty good though, and maybe a little more unique. I sure I'm going to buy myself my first brand new Jeep (I'm very excited) for Xmas and am hoping for some fresh new colors for '14. If available, how do orange wheels on an orange body sound? Amazing or hideous? Could really use a 2nd opinion.
PS: Does anyone know when the 2014s are supposed to come out?

For somebody like myself to hated the murdered out look, I now have black wheels.
Why? Function over form. I like the wheel and if I had another choice I may have gone with it. I don't care what anybody else thinks of my jeep anyways

Black wheels just don't stand out! With some color Wranglers they just get lost, like they don't exist!
On a Red, or Silver Wrangler they look pretty good. They look cheap on a White one and totally lost on a Black one.
Black Wranglers are my preference of choice, but need wheels that stand out and add some character to the already mean looking machine!
Now with all of that being said, the only person that has to be happy with your wheels is you, so go for it!!!!!!!!!

Ok, but if you don't have a "deal" you should realize that your posts come off pretty hostile...
But, think about it this way...there are about 15,000 wranglers sold a month. Besides a couple of the special editions, they come with silver wheels. A small percentage of wrangler owners change wheels. Out of the ones that do, certainly a large percentage of them opt for black wheels over chrome or silver. That is largely due to modding the vehicle towards offroad use. A lot of the in town only mall crawler chrome will still opt for chrome or the like. You are on a forum that represents a very very small portion of jeep owners and most are on this forum because of mods. So if you spend all your time on here, you get the impression that EVERYONE has black wheels. But in reality, it is just EVERYONE on here. On the street, I would guess at least 90% of JKs are still rocking silver wheels. In this case, my pseudo facts are actual facts. I don't have any special love for black wheels or anything. In fact I actually like the grey/tungsten style alot. I ordered my black rugged ridge wheels with the rash guard and had that painted black and green for a little pop of color on the wheels. Ill post a pic when I get home tonight. The rash ring is one of my favorite parts about those wheels. I can go back to all black if I just remove it. I have seen them painted red as an accent of body color. Protects your wheels and adds a little extra.

Body color wheels make me think of the Grand prix from the 80s. Not a good look imo.
