I see ebay sellers now have a Android head unit running KitKat release, quad processor etc...looks like its an OEM fit too. Anyone have any reviews on it? I really think that the 430n lacks in resolution and overall quality. looking for something better than the 430 to replace my 130

I've heard mixed reviews of the units you'll see on ebay (from Asia). Even though many of them look the same, you'll find a lot of variance in components both in quality as well as performance.

Even though it's a pricey option, I was more than happy to go with Insane Jeep Audio's JK1001. Amazing head unit based on Android. They also stand behind their product (provide updates, great customer support, etc.).

The joying unit I was looking at has the same specs and hardware wise and comes from the same manufacture (plant) in china. Atleast I read that in the audio forums. I cant seem to find any useful info. I am not looking to spend 1k on a head unit.

I just ordered the parts and pieces to install a backup camera. Unfortunately I don't have a radio with a display yet so I also ordered a rear view mirror with a 7" display. From all of the reading I have done on connecting a camera to a factory radio it doesn't sound like it takes much to get the dash apart. Really hoping to hear your review on the unit as I would like this to be my next mod. :)

I think cameras are about the same depending on how much you want to spend on one. I just bought on me that has been recommended in another thread. Purchased from Amazon for about 8.00, it is color, has back up lines, and is weatherproof. Just hooked it up to my 42" tv and it had a decent picture which I am sure will look even better once it is on a smaller screen. Did you get a manual or a link to a manual for the head unit you got? Typically the cameras are very basic to hook up. They output to an RCA cable and they have a +\- connection. RCA goes to the display and the +\- go to your reverse light circuit. You can get trickier by adding a bypass switch so you can run the camera while driving but that is a bit beyond the basic setup.

Just as a reference the camera measures about 3/4" and came with a baby hole saw to mount it with. I am planning to mount it in my rear bumper below the spare tire. I am hoping that it will provide the best image for reverse and give me a good spot for hitching trailers being right above the ball. Hopefully I will see my display mirror in the next week. Here is a picture of my tv with the camera image.

Oh I meant install video but maybe I won't need it.

The head unit came with a user manual, but only a one-page diagram for install. There's a long GPS cable antennae.... Where does this go? I assume there is an antenna on the wrangler but I don't think I've ever seen it. Other cars have the stubby one on the roof....

There is an antenna on the jeep somewhere on the roll bar but you won't be able to use it for the new HU. In my research I have read a lot of people just stick it to the top of the new unit but as with any antenna I think the higher you get it the better. Maybe route it up to the roll bar and secure it with some ty-wraps.

You guys know what the white and gold connections are? The new unit doesn't appear to have these. I got the head unit plugged in but have no sound. Was trying the radio... Maybe one is an antenna?

First thought is this thing is amazing. The clarity is unreal compared to stock 430n. I haven't even done anything yet. Just the welcome screen. Lol

Yeah, I have the adapter plugged in. So I don't need to plug in the other 3 cables (don't listen to radio), but I'm wondering why I don't have sound then?

I can't seem to get Bluetooth working either, otherwise I'd test out another audio source....

Well I Googled "Joying No Sound" and a lot of stuff popped up. Seems like a common issue and I may have to solder something on the motherboard. I'm not comfortable doing that since if it still doesn't work I doubt I would get a refund at that point.

Pretty disappointing. Got pretty excited after playing with this. Google maps is way better than stock Nav. Nice that it has a browser too. Works like a tablet basically.

Now I think I have to put everything back and send this back to Amazon. :(

Yeah, I already started the return process and have another one being sent out overnight. Looks like I missed the cutoff though and it is showing a guaranteed delivery date of 4/21. Sometimes stuff from Amazon shows up early though, hopefully it will be here tomorrow. I'm just going to leave everything as it is.

Stock unit is asking for a password now. Tried 0000 and 1234 and no luck. Not sure trying to get this info from the dealer is worth it for just 1 day of use...

Wish you were about and hour south :)

I think once the install bugs are worked out you will really like it. There is a lot of customization that can be done as well as a lot of apps that can be installed. So I think you will be able to get around the region lock with out to much trouble. Need to do a bit more research on this unit but I am betting there is a custom image for it.

I am kicking around the idea of adding a wifi hotspot to the jeep once I pull the trigger. Just got a winch so I need to wait a little bit to get wife unit buy off.

Did you end up using a specific video for the year apart? I also think my radio code is in with the manual and documents that I got with the jeep. You planning to keep your 430 or sell it? Betting you could cover the cost of the android unit. Also noticed that there was a 2yr extended coverage for 39.99 which might not be to bad of a deal if they have internal issues. Look forward to hearing more when the new unit comes.

HAHA, I just put 2 and 2 together. I was looking for your location and then remembered. lol

I didn't even think about adding a hotspot. That would be awesome. I have it activated on my phone, but may need to look into adding it to the car.

I'm hoping the screen is big enough for my daughter to watch movies from the back middle spot. I see that the head unit has connections for 2 additional screens, but I don't want to modify my headrests.

If I can get DVDs and backup camera to work, this will be worth it. I already know Google Maps works. These 3 are the main reasons for me doing this. All the other apps are just icing on the cake. If I can sell the factory unit to cover the cost that would be awesome. It is less than 2 months old (2016) so practically brand new.
