Animal Welfare Concern

So if you call a Jeep a car, a kitten dies.....I have not been guilty of that crime yet. However, I've had my JKU for about five months and I can't shake the habit of calling it my truck (after only driving trucks for the last 12 years). My question is, has anything died or is it OK to call it a truck from time to time?

I drove a truck for 10 years. I got my jeep 7 months ago and I still call it a truck from time to time. hahaha...

First thing I was going to do was pull out the rear seats and replace the rear doors with half doors. I've kind of gotten used to in by now. But I almost always drive with the seats folded down.

Not only do I still call it a truck. I find myself still driving it like my last F-350 crew cab. I still swing out when making a tight turn and I can't break the habit of backing into parking spaces. While I miss the hauling ability and enough diesel torque to pull out tree stumps....I love how fun this thing is to drive.

NO !! Calling it a truck is WORSE than a car !! It's like other SUV's cept way cooler....but still a station wagon.
Honestly I hate calling it a truck cause I had always had 1 the last 20+ years and it's NOT a truck.....but, really it's your Wrangler so call it whatever you like !

Your safe if you call it a vehicle or vehiculum... Nothing dies.

A vehicle (from Latin: vehiculum) is a mobile machine that transports passengers or cargo. Most often, vehicles are manufactured, such as bicycles, Jeeps, cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, trains, ships, boats and aircraft. Vehicles that do not travel on land include watercraft, aircraft and spacecraft. Land vehicles are classified broadly by what is used to apply steering and drive forces against the ground: wheeled, tracked, railed or skied. ISO 3833-1977 is the standard, also internationally used in legislation, for road vehicles types, terms and definitions.

I always call my wrangler my "car". I do this because its snobby to say "my wrangler" . Everyone refers to their vehicle as a 'my truck', 'my suv' or 'my car' but the snobby wrangler owner uses the actual model name? Is he better than everyone else? Not me!

So outside of these forums, I always just say 'my car'.

Haven't met a "snobby" Wrangler owner yet.

I will never say 'my jeep' in a regular conversation, for the sake of distinction.

I'm sure anyone who defends this whole 'its a jeep not a car!' Would instantly label someone as a tool for saying 'my camaro' or opening a story with 'yeah I got in my mustang and...'

If you have multiple vehicles you have to use "my jeep" for distinction though not personal distinction ;D

I don't get it ..

If I drive my Jeep to work and someone asked me how I got to work today, I say my Jeep - as opposed to my Chevy.

If someone asked me what was my favorite vehicle, I say my Plymouth.

Not sure why people would think that's "toolish" for identifying a brand name as "your vehicle" ...

You own it don't you? ... it's registered in your name.

You get my point. Its aimed at the "omg you said your car not your jeep" posts.

Obviously in everyday conversation if you were going to be referring to your jeep specifically, you need to. Comparing it to another car for instance or someone specifically asking what vehicle you chose to use.

Its the unnecessary inclusion of a brand name that irritates me. For nothing more than the clear purpose of stating you own one. I'm certain everyone has observed this at some point, and can identify the situation I was referring to.

I think its "toolish" for someone to identify themselves with a brand name.

That's a lot different. We're talking about if you happen to mention your vehicle then what do you say... "im going out to my wrangler for a second" makes me think "oh man this guy needs to get over the fact that he has a wrangler!".

"Im going out to my car real quick" does not invoke the same response.

OK ... got it, I think.

I was leading a big project and once a team member said they only drove Mercedes Benz... I turned as said "I'm a Jeep guy."

Maybe I was being a tool?... not sure what I was trying to get across. I'm not into naming a brand and associating it with my position. The individual is a product manager.

Ditto on the responses kj....the intent of the original post was to be sure all the animals were safe. Since no one said any puppies would die, I'll assume it's OK if I slip from time to time

Its a little more complex in my garage....there's the Tan JKUR, an orange TRD FJ Cruiser, a green FJ40 and a yellow Suzuki LJ20.....to the uneducated, any one could fall under the generic reference of "Jeep-like vehicle"

My wife has unwittingly killed many kittens by telling my daughter to hop into the "tan car".....its OK though, I don't like cats

If it comes up in conversation what im driving, just says "A Jeep (small pause) Jeep"
then everyones knows its not a patriot, compass, cherokee, or grand cherokee.

So I just say Im taking the Jeep Jeep. (and no i don't have a studder LOL)

I'm torn on this. I don't want to call my Jeep a car, but I'm all for the eradication of cats in all forms. What's a guy to do?

This is a weird thread... I like cats, especially mine .. the feral I rescued.

She would rip your eyes out saying something like that... smart, lean, she can snatch a mockingbird from the sky.

Natural born hunter.

Car = NO
Truck = Weird, bothersome, but no kittens die.
Jeep = Day to day.
JK = With others in the know.

I always say Jeep. Never say "wrangler" (always hated the wrangler name). In house, just say JK. Every jeep I have had, even my older grand I referred to by model designation. Used to be ZJ. Habbit since my first CJ.

Well, if there's one thing we agree on is this... "Wrangler" sounds adolescent. When they came out with the 2007 Unlimited 4-door the entire line should have been renamed ... maybe should have taken on the Cherokee name, or simply called a Jeep JK Unlimited, JK2 or JK4 with the sub-model as the line identifier.

They screwed this up for sure.

When asked what I drive I reply with "a Rubicon". 99% ask what that is.
