Awesome thread! So, after reading all the posts it seems the seat comes in and out relatively easy, the seat will not lock in any position except the passenger seating position. Correct so far? Scout Sniper's shower bar looks like the most practical way to secure the seat for me.
The access to the rear seat stinks! I was looking at '00 and '01 Wranglers and the front passenger seat folded up to provide much easier access to the rear seat.
This is all very helpful for me thanks! I did not get a manual with the Jeep, but have a new manual coming so I am learning everything here and on the fly. Now on to the stereo/radio unit, I'll start looking at other threads. Thanks everyone..Dale

The latch secures the seat to the bed when in the down position. There are two hinged brackets holding the front of the seat to the bed (which allows the seat to be flipped forward) and the hitch latches to a bracket mounted on the bed when the seat is lowered back to its original position.

What about a tie down strap like the ones used in a pick up? just put it around the roll cage and it would be quick and easy.

Attention all 2 door Wrangler owners with the NON FOLDING passenger front seat: Jeep has rectified this stupidity with the 2011 Wrangler 2 door. If we all scream enough at the customer service (?) reps, maybe Jeep will give us a retrofit slider/mechanism that will us to access the rear seat. The 2011 part from Chrysler is OVER $800.00!

Wow! I have had both a 2007 and now a 2011 JK and have never ever had a problem with either rear seat. The only thing I do different is I remove the headrests when I buy a Jeep and replace them when I sell it. I have no use for those things. It sure makes it easier to fold and tumble the rear seat without the headrests installed.

There is no way there are going to retrofit it for us. Did they go back and put 6 speeds in all of the 5 speed jeeps? Did they replace the totally retarded 3 speed auto with the 4 speed auto when it came out? Nope, cause chrysler is cheap. Their answer to you will be, "have you seen the '11, we can make a deal today"

Has anyone had any problems getting it to fold up? I can only get the seat to go flat but seat will not fold forward. I have tried everything with the release but does not seem to release the rear floor latches.

Easy fix to secure rear seat up

To secure the rear seat in the fold up position, I use two 36-inch bungee cords. One end hooks to a headrest post, around the side of the seat, through the latch, and onto the opposite hook. Reverse for the other side. Takes 10 seconds to put on and take off. Seat stays firm against the back of the front seats. Gotta love the cheap fixes!

You can't. I don't care if you anodize it. It will scratch easy. What can be done is polish. Run it on a buffing wheel it will shine like chrome and is hard to notice scratches unless your looking.
