Betting starts now. Winners get bragging rights. Losers get shamed.
Insurance adjuster will be looking at it early next week.
Details that may help... 07 honda accord t-boned the driver's side wheel and front bumper. Leaking fluids. Oil light is on. Windshield cracked on passenger side. Passenger side has bent fender and passenger door is misaligned. Jeep is a 2017 Sahara with less than 7k miles and KBB is valuing it at $33k for trade-in. I believe original sticker was around $40-41k this past October.
Nah, sounds to me like the frame was probably torqued pretty good in the front if it cracked the passenger side window and popped the top passenger side corner. Also, the hood doesn't seem to align anymore. Who knows wth happened with the engine. I bet they end up totaling it.
I just went through this with my son's car, that got crushed by a tree on Monday from a storm. Roof was buckled, pillars were bent and front/rear windows were gone. They totalled it.
Through this ordeal, we learned that in New York State, the insurance company regs say that the repair must not exceed 75% of the vehicle value, otherwise it's a total. Therefore, using NYS insurance regs, the repair on this Jeep would have to be more than $24,750.00. Other states may vary, but I doubt that they would be radically different.
I would bet that they'll repair that unless the engine block is cracked or the transmission mounts are busted. New powertrain components on top of frame, body & suspension damage could push the price tag for repair up in a hurry.
I would be VERY surprised if they DO total it. With the way these hold their value and the cost of a frame being very reasonable. As mentioned, dont know if this is one I would want back.
DEFINITELY, follow up for a diminished value claim. You are going to take a definite hit on resale/trade in.
Needs a frame for sure, a front clip worth of sheet metal, wheel, bumper (make sure they make you whole on your aftermarket one), entire front steering suspension. Id quadruple check the steering gear. Probably going to need a front axle replacement too.
Ive heard (back many moons ago) 60% was the normal "total" amount so you are looking at least needing $18k damage to get close.
I'm guessing "not totaled". Normally I'm the one telling people the damage is more than they think, but since the Jeep is so new, they'll attempt to fix.
To me; it appears to have frame damage.
I hope you're taken care of; this is the scary part of owning new. Hopefully no one was hurt.
It's what I can't see that will be the biggest factor. Frame, core support and did the front of the motor see any damage. Not seeing any of that I'll go with you're just shy of a new jeep. So enjoy the next four month of being jeep-less.
heh heh, I knew someone from that thread would chime in.
Thanks for the well wishes. I'm fine.
Unfortunately it's most likely going to be determined my fault since I was pulling out of a driveway into traffic when it happened. I was issued a citation. I do believe the other driver was partially at fault but I don't want to get into those details here. So diminished value won't be an option for me.
I too am leaning towards it being repaired. The owner of the body shop where it currently sits is leaning towards total loss but based on it's current worth, I doubt it. Texas has really high total loss values... i think I read it was 100%. And honestly, as long as they fix it, especially if it gets a whole new frame, i'm not overly worried about it. It would at least save me the hassles, time and money of swapping out all the aftermarket parts with oem parts, waiting for a new jeep from the factory, and then having to reinstall everything. Depending on what needs to be replaced, may even try to work with the body shop on getting some more aftermarket parts. 10a hood maybe?
But since I'm jeepless, figured it'd be fun to see what ya'll thought.
Trying to keep a good attitude in a really shitty situation!
I'm thinking the insurer will do everything they can to avoid totaling it, but in the end it will be.
By the looks of it, they'd be replacing nearly everything but the rear axle and door.
Allstate repaired a 1yr old used car we had for 30 days before the wreck. It was in the shop for 6 months and the repair costs ended up pretty close to our purchase price. Car was never really right after that. We drove it for a year then unloaded it at a huge loss. Was back in the shop a couple times during that year.
Not funny at all , but first photo blames the curb
I know it is not funny at all to the owner , but the first photo looks like he hit the curb with his left wheel , and the curb then bent the wheel inwards from the force of the curb ; then firetruck came .:bop:
The total loss threshold in Texas is 75% of actual vehicle value. So let's assume that it has a value of $35k. Your repair cost would have to be around $25k for it to be considered a total loss. Weird things happen in wrecks so I could be wrong but I don't see $25k in damage.
If you were pulling from a drive onto a dedicated street, then you probably will get nailed with it, unless the Honda was on the shoulder or sidewalk.
The repairs will be very expensive. To fix the frame, they will probably have to disassemble most of the Jeep to strip the frame and then put it on a frame jig. That is an expensive process because of the equipment and training involved. If you wish, you can probably push for a OEM 2017 frame since the vehicle is so new. Some of this will also depend on your insurance carrier.
When I hit a buzzard last march, USAA did not even hesitate about putting an OEM windshield in, as a matter of fact I didn't even have to bring it up, they started with the premise of making it right.
The way the top is popped, plus the seriously jacked up gaps on that passenger front door.... that thing is seriously torqued. I'm betting the Honda was going a good bit more than 35 mph
