Another Happy New Owner - JKR 2012

Picked up my white 2012 JKR today. It's a monster!

First impressions
1. Big on the inside
2. Sight lined and lane placement will take some getting used to
3. Electronic stuff works well - a stepp up from my old car
4. Dealer was great. Pat @ Fields, can't say enough about him.
5. Steering is a little looser than my other vehicle. That or the tires made it feel like it jumped around a bit in the lane, maybe just my imagination
6. Need to figure out what to do with the hard top this summer - to remove/store it myself or hire out
7. Need to find some off road trails
8. Let the modding begin
9. Should really sell my old car

If your JK is a four-door unlimited, that longer wheel base often throws people off at first with the handling. Either way, it will definitely feel different than any other car or truck you have driven, but you will get used to it. Keep in mind that every drivetrain mod you put on it will also change had it feels, including lift kits and bigger tires. My buddy has a 2010 JK and stores his hard top for the winter. He just bought one of those knew Trektops which looks awesome, especially on the unlimiteds due to the larger angled roll bars on the back.

One more thing you can expect. After being encouraged to lay into the throttle a bit more (as I was this weekend), expect to be astonished at how it leaves traffic in the dust.

Thrust!

What's the consensus on the lifetime warranty? I can get it at cost $2200, from the dealer. I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time, on the other hand I'm pretty easy on them and do far haven't had major issues. Is it worth it?

it's impossible to tell if it'll be worth it until it is all said and done (when you either sell the jeep or it finally dies which ever comes first).

Only if you have NAV.

BTW, JKU has a smaller footprint than a jetta

And the mods begin. Starting slow, does a grab handle count? How about a stubby antenna?

More first impressions: passenger seat is a bear to fully fold for entry, the last bit where the seat rises takes a lot of force.

The freedom panels come off easy enough, heavier than they look though

Heated seats aren't heating - need to check with dealer

Make sure someone is sitting in the seat and you aren't just trying to feel if they are heating with your hand.

My experience with other manufacturers is that the heated seats will not operate (despite the light being on) if there is not a person sitting in the seat.

Enjoy!

I have the heated seats but have leather if I leave them on I know it. Its usually only when I first start out in the a.m. 1/2 hr into the ride and they are off. Great feature when you have the top off and its cold.

Check you air pressure. Dealer are natorious for over inflating which can cause it to dance around in the lanes.

"Sight lines and lane placement will take some getting used to"

Upgrading to a JKUR from an 05' Hyundai Elantra GT took a bit of adjustment at first for me as well.

Best adjustment ever!

My Wrangler is almost here. Just shipped out, I am also coming from a Hyundai - 2006 Sonata GLS V6. Definitely will be a change.

I have an 07X JKU and recently drove a 2011 Sahara JKU.
To me it felt that the Sahara was bouncing somewhat more on rougher pavement than my X does. It felt tight, muffled but bouncy. Neither has mods, the Sahara had 18" wheels.
The X has a harsh ride but not as bouncy, IMO.
