Yes you are right about that. I researched U haul's policy before I bought it and made sure I got the hard top (wanted it for other reasons other than this obviously). It is kinda weird though? I wonder if they had an incident in the past.

Life lesson learned. Most everyone I know got burned intentionally or accidentally over a vehicle sale when they were young.

Car salespeople often go to wherever is hiring and currently has the best sales incentivization. Salespeople are trained mostly in psychology to sell you anything they have on the lot. Many will work at different stores and completely different makes over a few years. That often does not include hardware training on how the vehicle was engineered, all its functions, etc., because most consumers have no clue what a gear ratio is, a tongue rating, or how a Sirius/XM radio works. They either ask another salesperson, look in the owner manual, or search the internet for an answer. Many times the information is incorrect and they aren't intentionally deceiving the customer. Even manufacturers sometimes put out incorrect information. Most everyone here is an enthusiast and knows far more than the average salesperson does.

Always research every big purchase and hopefully you can get a gear swap inexpensively.

Maybe that's Canadian pounds. Each Canadian pound equals 2.2 American pounds. So you should be good for 2,200 real pounds.

If it were me I would at least make the dealership take back the over priced $650 receiver hitch and return that money. You do have some ground to stand on in that you have an e-mail from them stating the vehicle can tow 3,500lbs - which it can't. I would use that as a means to make them take off the receiver hitch and return that money. Tell them you only purchased that receiver with the understanding that the vehicle can tow 3,500lbs.

Get that money back pronto. Tell them they can re-use it for another customer. Then get the receiver/harness from Q-Tec and use the cash difference for something else.

Thanks for the advice I am getting my money back for the hitch and I et to keep it.

Good point and yea I'm getting my my money back from hitch but get to keep it. After I get a few more KM on my jeep I will re gear and get new shoes and sprigs

It is reasons like this that I didn't buy my Jeep from the first dealer I went to. I knew more than the sales guy did. Im not talking a few things more... he new zero about Jeeps. I figure I asked about 12 questions during the test ride to which I got about 11 "I'll have to check on that when we get back".

When they called back to ask about my thoughts on the Jeep and began the pressure tactics, I responded that I did not feel comfortable with the "I'm not the Jeep expert" guy. I said if you hire salesmen to work at a dealer that sells Jeeps and have no clue, then chances are you hire mechanics that don't know Jeeps. An assumption on my part - yes. But not taking any chances..

Most sales people are there as chaparones to make sure the jeep comes back to the lot. Lets face it, no salesperson ever sold you a jeep you didnt already want to buy. It comes down to one thing, price. With the internet, it is easy to know about the vehicle before you get to the dealer. I buy form the dealer with the best price , and get warranty service from the dealer that has the best rep for service

I believe its due to the weight, the hardtop makes the the jeep a little heavier in back, in their eyes it probobly makes it less likely to jack knife when stopping...Whether it does or not is debatable, I do know my old Ram 1500 and my Durango both weigh about the same, but the Durango is far more stable stopping with my boat behind it...

It sounds like your squeaky wheel at least got some help on the hitch front.

I was just going to "weigh" in on the trailer weight confusion as well. I own a 2013 2 door sport with 3.21 gears (may regear eventually but truthfully this is not the same as the pre-2012 3.21 situation) My downloaded pdf manual says 1000 lbs for certain configurations, but I had been told about that misinformation ahead of time. The Jeep website has the accurate current info and has all 2 doors capable of 2000lbs no matter what gearing.

As far as I know, there isn't anything anything you can do to get the number from 2000lbs to 3500 short of stretching it out and adding doors.

I have towed my daysailer on my old TJ (rated at 2000lbs as well) without issue. Have also hauled a utility trailer on many occasions. Truthfully (and happy to be called out as a wuss here) I am not sure I'd want to pull much more of a beast behind me. I never found it fun and the long braking distance we all enjoy doesn't improved with a trailer behind you.

Thanks to the forum re: the Uhaul info- that's a new one to me!

Good on you for getting a new free windshield - but don't stir the pot by asking whether you will void your warranty if you do (fill in the blank). Ask here, not the dealer, you don't need them to even think about flagging you in the system and ruining your warranty.

Thank you, I looked at my windshield after the crack and there is literally no chip. The dealer initially denied me even though it is new. I called Chrysler Canada and they told me if the dealer can't find a chip it is a stress crack which is manufacturer defect and would have to replace it free. After all this with my gears and hitch I think they just want to shut me up and said they will replace it.

As for the rubi springs and shocks- will this void my 5 year warranty at all?

1000kg is about 2205lbs

"Should" it? no.
"Will" it? that's up to the dealer, because you will need to do some work on the Jeep in order to swap them and in theory if its not done properly, could lead to some serious issues that you would have to take responsibility for. However, they could only deny warranty work for items directly affected by the suspension work, despite the fact that it was replaced with another factory part. They could make the argument that the work wasn't done by them, therefore that's what lead to whatever damage that's associated to it.

Its a hit or miss with some dealers regarding aftermarket parts or owner repairs but ultimately you should take responsibility for whatever work you do. If it fails for no reason of your own and is a legitimate warranty claim, then by all means pursue it. But, if its something that you know was a result of work you did, don't try to scam the system and try to push it through. That would make you no better than them and Karma has a funny way of working itself out.

That's interesting because the salesman told me it was roughly 2,100 lbs tow rated. And CHrysler said 1000, so maybe they meant kg instead of lbs?

As far as the Rubicon springs and shocks go- If I installed them myself and something happened I would not claim it under warranty, I wouldn't feel right about that and for sure they would catch on. But for argument sake- say someone purchased the springs and shocks new and asked the dealer to install I wonder then If they would cover it? considering its valid Jeep parts and the dealer installed them.

That's my bet. From Jeep.ca:

They should honor their work, that goes for any shop that does any work for you. I would get everything in writing, just to keep everyone on the same page.
