So now the maps on my navigation system have disappeared. When you try to use it it says no detailed maps installed. Don't know how it could lose the maps. I assume the dealer could reinstall them but this one minute process would take them all day.

My electronics glitched often when the Jeep was new. They replaced the head unit and it still did it (Sirius was a hassle to swap after the head exchange, btw).
Was scheduled for another head unit when I was beta-testing the JW Speaker J headlights and was mucking about with the dealer's WiTech scanner ---- I reflashed with my build and all my problems disappeared.

It's worth a try. Have the dealer call up your build and do a reflash, clear any BOMs. See if the maps come back.

I too own a Jeep with manual Windows and doors, and I have a very nice Garmin Nuvi in the seat back pocket, along with a ball mount on the dash. I don't think I've stuck it up there in the past 18 months. Why does anybody use a Garmin who owns a phone? Being able to say, "Siri, directions to 1901 Chester Avenue, Atlanta" and start driving pretty much makes me wonder why I even still have the Nuvi in that seat back pocket.

It's all good 'till poof..GONE!!!!

When the sun lets out a big belch and friggs all our "modern" electronics, there is going to be some(most) people that will be shyte outa luck. The old tested and true map reading and compass skills...which are "virtually"... pun intended...lost,will be relearned or learned for the first time for many . I have nav and all that BS...still love to read a map and orienteering, and all the skill art and knowledge in that skill base.

You probably won't need a map unless you have a bicycle with you. Everything from the fuel pump to the goddamn horn in a JK is routed through a computer.

I can read a map and find my way with two within 5 feet of any location with a compass and triangulation techniques. I expect the things I pay for to work properly. This is my second wrangler. The first one was such a piece of shit that they had to give me a new one under the lemon law. I still liked it, wouldn't have any other vehicle. But those of you that say these things aren't the biggest pieces of shit for the money are lying to yourselves. everything about them for what you pay for them is subpar. That being said I would definitely get another one.

Truth is most of you would get every option that you could afford in any vehicle you bought, so stop insulting everybody that has the newest technology.

Mainly because I don't want to have my phone get interupted with a Notification or phone call. I program my GPS and don't touch it again until I get to my destination. I also like the larger screen. I do use my phone in a pinch but like to keep it free for communication. I hate fiddling with electronics when I drive.

I used to teach compass and map reading in the army and I have all the off-road map books for my province, plus a road map. So I can go anywhere with confidence, except, of course, to an address in a big city. And, since I don't have a smart phone, the Jeep's nav does come in useful at times.

"It's easier, faster, and almost foolproof. "

evidence abounds claim of this 'almost' factor creates considerable distress when not functioning as expected.

My own Nuvi on cross-country road trips, while otherwise spectacular performance, at least once a day made major idiot mistake in directions.....such as suddenly insisting we turn off the highway into an actual plowed field 90 degrees away from the targeted hotel in the town about 15 miles ahead. That and manyManyMANY other glitches of daily operation leaves me skeptical and guarded even when they do 'work'.

Given those errors, they still make it easier/usually/to find my way around.

Someday I may even get around to trying that Siri thing on the phone....if I ever get it hooked up to whatever system runs it........
