Antenna -- total Noob

Ok... For the life of me I cannot get the stock antenna off my JK... I have tried everything from wrenches to pliers to jar openers

What's the trick? It should unscrew but that ain't the case...

I used pliers on mine last week and it came right off, no problem. Just a little more elbow grease i guess?

Hmm, I got mine off with some pliers on Wed when I put my Antenna X on there. Maybe spray some WD-40 on it and have it sit overnight then try again with pliers?

I weigh 300 lbs and put my whole ass into it... I thought about WD-40 but was nervous about it getting into the hole and messing up the reception/electronics

You should be able to do it with one hand and the correct wrench. If you are putting your body into it something is wrong. Are you turning in the right direction?

Maybe it got cross-threaded at the factory? Maybe try with a pair of vice-grips? Clamp down hard on that SOB and break it free.

Got it!!! Went out to harbor freight and bought a clamping plier..... And just ripped it out of there.

Stubby antenna looks/works great... Little black plastic piece it screwed in to looks chewed-up and the few nicks on the paint job are the first in that spot but match some of the many others from the woods/pine barrens and many more to come

yes, the factory puts blue loctite on the threads. you are the second person in the last week having a hard time taking off stock antenna. maybe overtorqued from factory?

I actually didn't have a hard time with mine. I had to use pliers just a tad bit to break it free. I tried it with just my fingers, but it was raining and I couldn't get a grip on it.

yes, a 10mm or 3/8 inch wrench fits the base of the antenna for loosening

Mine came off easily, just with fingers, then screwed on my 14 inch Antenna X. Looks great.
