I ordered a 13 inch antenna x antenna but it is a pain in the arse to screw in. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way I can screw the antenna all the way into the holder?

Didn't think it was possible to fudge up the install of an antenna. :O

The original antenna does come with thread locker from the factory, so perhaps there's some thread locker caked up on the threads of the antenna base. Other than simply ordering/receiving the wrong antenna and the thread locker, I can't think of anything else.

Maybe you misunderstood. I have screwed the antenna in perhaps 3/4 of the way but from there it will not budge; it will not drive in further. I can not use a tool to screw it in further as it is round and no tool fits around it. I did not receive or order the wrong antenna.

The stock antenna has thread lock on it and it tends to stick to the bolt you are screwing into. Try to scrape and clean that thing first, then screw it in (will be much easier).

On 4wd.com, it looks like it comes with different adapters. Our 24" had a squared off place to wrench it on. It looks like the 13" doesn't so maybe some tubing over the jaws of a set of lock pliers would help so it don't dig in?? The wife installed ours when I was at work. She felt good about helping with the a new part...

I installed my Antenna X last night, The first few threads went on by hand then the rest was with a wrench, It was pretty tight but it went on. Mine is a 24.

Check that you have the right adapter by calling the company. I got a "stubbie" and discovered that - even though it included adapters - none fit my jeep. The website said I had the wrong antenna! A call to the office saw the dispatch of the correct one - now it fits fine.

You could also send a PM to AntennaX here on the forum. He's really good about helping out. :thumb:

Mine was tough to put on too. Hand tightened and then used a wrench for the last bit. Was afraid I had cross-threaded the thing. I got the short rubber one. Loved the way it looked but reception was so bad that I ended up putting the stock antenna back on.
Found out then I hadn't screwed up the threads, it's just a pain to install.

Following the advice on a similar thread, I added a rubber grommet to the bottom of the antenna. It filled I the space between the bottom of the antenna and the bracket. Looks okay and reception is fine. Why they don't make one to fit snug is beyond me. I know they're aware of the complaint as they have answered up in the forum. <shrug>

The original has lock tight on it and when i tried to install my stubby it did the same as yours went in a little and that was it, i put pair of pliers on it and freeded it up and back it out and then had the ability and tools to run a thread tap down the hole and clean the threads out of the original lock tight and then it went it smooth as butter.

I'm pretty sure every problem I've seen someone post about publicly have all been replaced as needed. And several people I've told to PM him have come back to their threads and said that they were taken care of via PM. :)

Glad they took care of you, Turch! :thumb:

I just put an AntennaX 14" Billet on my Jeep a few minutes ago... Got it down by hand a ways, but that wasn't enough. I didn't want to use pliers for fear of scratching up my nice new antenna, so I opted for a crescent wrench. That worked well... however, it's only flat on two sides and the small space between the antenna and the body made it very hard to tighten down.

This comment will make many laugh, but I sure wish AntennaX had a simple YouTube video on the best way to install their product without damaging it... tips-n-tricks from the guys who make it.

There will be a small space between the bottom of the antenna and base into which it is screwed. Antenna X acknowledges this but haven't said why? I placed a rubber grommet on the threaded portion, snugged it up and all is good.
