Anti theft protection!!

I was wondering what kind of teff deterrent are you using to protect after market wheels and stereo!!

Not sure what a teff is ... if your referring to those scum bags that go around stealing then there's all kinds of deterrents.

I specifically chose an aftermarket stereo with a detachable faceplate. If you're going to leave the Jeep in an area where you have a concern about some urchin attempting to relieve you of the contents of the vehicle, make sure that you have no contents to be taken. Also, make sure that it's easy for them to get in; the last thing you want is your roof getting slashed open.

If it's regularly in a high risk area, consider a proximity alarm.

Wheel locks for wheels and removable face for my HU.

Next project is a proximity alarm with a hidden turn off switch for days I don't want it on. It will basically be set up for when the top is down. Will be wired to the factory alarm.

So I actually just started a thread about this in the Electronics forum, but since you mention it here - is it possible to wire an aftermarket proximity sensor into the OEM alarm? If so, is it a relatively straightforward thing to do?

Put the radio in the center console, and add an 8 track in the dash.

Gorilla lug nuts will slow them down.

It is, well sort of. I am going to use the rear door factory wiring that sets off the factory alarm if the rear door were to be opened by the key with the alarm active. This is a purple wire that runs from the tailgate through the passenger side up up to the wiring harness. Then when the relay is flipped off, the sensor will get power and turn on. Plus the factory system has a built in delay in that you have ~15 seconds before the factory alarm is active. Noted by the hyper-flash on the red light which changes to a slow pulse flash once active. That should allow plenty of time to walk away from the Jeep.

From there it is setting up the sensor to be as sensitive as I want. It has 2 different settings so I will figure out which one works best for when the top is off. That way I don't need to worry about the Jeep in a heavy rainstorm etc and the alarm going off every 2 minutes.

The hidden switch will be when I really do not want the sensor on at all. I garage the Jeep so really no need to have it on when in the garage. I plan to start working on it this week. I will do a nice installation guide...

Wheel lug nut locks are basically useless unless your wheels are properly torqued. Most arent.. I can remove them by loosening the lugnuts opposite of them and then tightening the lug nuts next to the lock. Its suddenly loose....

As for electronics, make sure the alarm goes off if the hood is opened. Otherwise useless, they clip the battery cable.

No single thing is a cure all. It takes multiple layers if you want security.
I lock my doors and dont leave anything in the Jeep worth taking.
I have a dog outside that likes to eat strangers.
I also have security cameras .
I have my property posted no trespassing .
And if they make it past all of that every member of my family is armed and trained and will take lethal action if deemed necasary.

I have video of my wife drawing my 40 on a scum bag that was supposedly looking for scrap metal. He pulls in and comes to the door and she answered with my 40 cal M&P and ask him if he can ******* read. Its posted on both sides of the driveway.He backs away and says something smart she says we have your tags ,a picture of your face and if you come back you will die. She called me at work and told me the story I thought she was scared but after watching the video I realized she was pissed and meant business.
Did I mention she is a mean mean lady and I feel confident she will do whats needed if the need arises.

I installed a Viper alarm completely separate from the factory system...very easy to do since you don't need to tap into any obscure wires. The only trigger for it is the proximity sensor. There is also a power switch for the Viper alarm. Though it is currently wired to the main battery, I'm considering hooking it to a compact, hidden 12-volt deep cycle battery.

I also installed the Tuffy #275 security deck a few days ago. That thing is huge and bombproof.

Do you have it wired to arm/disarm in conjunction with the main alarm, or do you have two separate fobs?

The Viper has it's own remote. It lives in a pocket in the console unless I need to arm that system...which isn't very often. The Viper also sets off tones and lights on the remote if I'm within a few thousand feet of the vehicle.

Very interesting....

Makes me feel a touch better about having splines. While the same concept would apply...it would be a touch harder to do without a splne key since all 5 nuts are splines.

The reason I am tapping into the factory alarm is so I don't need another fob on my keychain and have to press 2 buttons to arm/disarm. That combined with the Mopar hood lock will at least deter the common scumbag. At least you can't lift the hood and clip the power easily.

Ideally I just want a bit of a warning to passers-by when the top is down and I am at the beach or dinner. I don't leave the Jeep overnight in any questionable areas. I take my 14 year old A4 to those places.

Yeah I have the Viper 5904 alarm and it is tapped into the factory alarm. Even though the Viper's remote is cooler(1 mile remote start, color screen, multiple options,etc.) I just didn't want to carry two remotes, plus I have a Mopar hood lock and gas cap lock coded to ignition key so factory key was the choice.
